Eizo finally escapes the ugly with latest FORIS HD LCDs
It was touch and go for a minute there, with Eizo laying claim to the "ugliest HDTVs ever made" on these very pages. Lucky for eyeballs the world over, Eizo been hard at work in the design department, and this latest FORIS HD line is -- dare we say it -- rather sexy. The Japan-destined displays come in 24-inch and 27-inch versions, with WUXGA (Full HD) resolutions, three HDMI inputs and a TV tuner. They'll be retailing for the equivalent of $1,469 to $1,642 US and come in white and blue flavors.

I don't know about sexy, I can't see buying one of these for myself.
Derry Quinn @ Nov 1st 2007 9:46AM
*pukes* The other one was waaaaaayyyyyy sexyier, as in the old one was http://www.uglypeople.com/uploaded/110975/newpic27.JPG and this is http://www.uglypeople.com/uploaded/104969/b2.jpg
andrew @ Nov 1st 2007 9:09AM
you're kidding about the "sexy" thing, right?
ryan @ Nov 1st 2007 9:10AM
i'm pretty sure that's still ugly
Matt @ Nov 1st 2007 11:26AM
Engadget, you've got very odd taste. Most gadgets you think are ugly are actually quite striking, and this "sexy" LCD is an f'n monstrosity!
RyanTV @ Nov 1st 2007 9:15AM
I am most definitely sure that is still ugly.
Homeboy @ Nov 1st 2007 9:15AM
Does it X-ray? If not does it blend?
Shadowise @ Nov 1st 2007 9:17AM
I'm in-line with everyone else, that's still pretty darn ugly.
Karo @ Nov 1st 2007 9:21AM
Sexy? That has to be a joke. That's so ugly I might consider PS3 better looking.
Andir3.0 @ Nov 1st 2007 11:27AM
Worse than trolling, is trolling off topic. Congratulations for being uber-stupid.
SteveJ @ Nov 1st 2007 9:28AM
Hideous indeed. Aside from the boring and thick shape, what's with the strange red accent? Surely engadget has been smoking something questionable?
Trent @ Nov 1st 2007 3:37PM
The back is red so that you know when you are facing the rear of the object. See when you produce a product this hideous you have to paint it's backside red because no one can tell which side is the front.
Spider1981 @ Nov 1st 2007 9:29AM
I think that thing looks uglier than their ugliest LCD from before.
Belmin @ Nov 1st 2007 9:31AM
SIKE
riggs @ Nov 1st 2007 9:37AM
hey its sexy.....for hospitals.
Allan @ Nov 1st 2007 9:43AM
I hope I'm not the only one that things this is WAY uglier than the other one. Good god...
Justin @ Nov 1st 2007 9:45AM
Hold me back, baby. That white...blockiness...is just so hot.
josejuan05 @ Nov 1st 2007 10:00AM
Who do you think you're kidding? That thing's ugly as sin!!!
Ranger @ Nov 1st 2007 10:08AM
yuck! i agree with karo, a ps3 actually might look better, considering the circumstances.
Joe V @ Nov 1st 2007 10:11AM
"Rather sexy"? I'm guessing the guys at Engadget have an affinity for the 'healthier' ladies. Hey, good for them.
I can see the marketing materials now: "Get the poor color reproduction and viewing angle limitations of an LCD, combined with the sleek ergonomics of a CRT, plus the particle-board cabinetry feel of IKEA!"
tekdroid @ Nov 1st 2007 10:16AM
The retired Volvo designer needs to do something in his spare time.
Gurs @ Nov 1st 2007 10:57AM
Dear Paul Miller & Engadget,
Please, edit this post, before you lose any remaining credibility in the arena of aesthetics! The people have spoken, the verdict is in, this thing is hideous! Sexy? That beast is as sexy as an open chancre sore.
Kindest Regards,
The Engadget Community
Mchacur @ Nov 1st 2007 11:08AM
Sarcasm anybody???
Deuz Augustine @ Nov 1st 2007 11:14AM
I like the old ones more. I never thought the old ones were ugly, just sort of odd.
jerbils @ Nov 1st 2007 11:15AM
Wow. Engadget, usually I can rationalize your point of view on a lot of things, but this thing is just plain hideous. Yikes.
yeag3r @ Nov 1st 2007 11:27AM
Earth to the internet: Stop calling technology sexy.
yeag3r @ Nov 1st 2007 11:59AM
@Karo: That's ok. It's just whenever I hear it I can't help but attempt to think of said gadget or software in a sexually attractive way, which is not something I want to be imagining. If I could Photoshop, I would dress the tv up in nude pantyhose, link to it, and have saxophone music playing in the background. Pretend I did.
Karo @ Nov 1st 2007 11:33AM
It was just a stupid joke, but I admit being a jerk. I apologise.
loci @ Nov 1st 2007 11:28AM
i think its sexy...in a '2001: A Space Odyssey' kinda way
Will @ Nov 1st 2007 12:43PM
Is this a satire article? This is one of the boxiest, ugliest designs I've ever seen for an LCD...
pjg @ Nov 1st 2007 12:58PM
looks like a prop reject from 2001: A Space Odyssey.
RDM @ Nov 1st 2007 1:00PM
HOT!!!
:D
farfisa @ Nov 1st 2007 1:42PM
Is there a hot model cropped out that I can't see?
ben @ Nov 1st 2007 3:50PM
Is that a floppy drive I see on the side? Just think of all the hi-def content you can fit on a floppy!
Eriq @ Nov 1st 2007 7:21PM
That's a 5.25 floppy drive, actually.
Eriq @ Nov 1st 2007 7:19PM
Eww. Looks like it belongs in the mental ward at belleview hospital.
Tonio @ Nov 1st 2007 7:49PM
Good god you people are shallow. So when a design is not as thin and minimalistic as it could be, it's ugly?
This design is beautifull imo, and atleast it's something new...
branden collins @ Nov 2nd 2007 1:18AM
thats the ugliest modernist box I've ever seen. for shame engadget.
Eriq @ Nov 2nd 2007 1:53AM
LMAO. You can't tell me it looks like it belongs in a patient-friendly hospital???
Matthew Hillman @ Nov 2nd 2007 10:21AM
I'm sorry but are you blind!? Even if I was blind I wouldn't buy that. Come on Eizo you can do better than that surely?...maybe not..
Rudiger @ Nov 2nd 2007 5:56PM
If you click the link to read the article, you'll see the blue one doesn't look too bad.
