Logic3's JiveBox does your iPod audio HD style
If you need a compact 2.1 speaker system for your iPod, then Logic3's JiveBox is for you. The system packs a 5.25-inch woofer, 2x3-inch midrange drivers and 2x1-inch tweeters all in a 7.25-inch cube. Stereo imaging may not be the point here, but you know that with an iPod dock, DSP processing and (wait for it) LED light bar, convenient insta-parties are. So what's HD about this cube-of-cones? The 90-Watt Class HD amplifier that makes the racket. Details on what "Class HD" means are sketchy, but we think it refers to "hybrid digital," most probably some form of a Class D, PWM amplifier. No availability announced for the US, so it'll cost you £130 (about $270) to find out if that guess is right.[Via Shiny Shiny]

Class HD comes from the combination of Class H and Class D amplifier designs. HD does not stand for "Hybrid Design" or "High Definition" just to make the clear.

@Smith: Thanks for the clarification. I was pretty sure it had nothing to do really with "High Def" and that it had something to do with a Class D design, as in the post; but Class H is a new one to me. Do you know if this rail-switching Class H what Sunfire (or was it Carver) was using in its amps?
Yeah, HD basically takes the two forms of tracking power supplies and putts them togeahter for a sort-of two dimensional tracking. The H side tracks the voltage necessary from the power supply rails and keeps them a little above necessary, a pseudo-infinity voltage rails, while the class D switching amplifier operates as it would normally. This new amp design has al ot more going on with it as they are devoping amps for subwoofers and other systems too. We should start seeing these on the market in the next year or two.
As for the Sunfire products, he does/did have some amps that were running with class H topology for the voltage rails. Not sure if Sunfire is still using it or not.
