Consonance's Droplet CDP3.1: the kidney-shaped CD player
Considering Consonance's reputation, we're not all that surprised that its latest CD player is shaped unorthodoxly, but mimicking the proportions of a kidney was an interesting choice. Nevertheless, the Droplet CDP3.1 is a 24-bit, oversampling top-loading player that features gold plated RCA outputs, a wireless remote and a digital buffer to eliminate jitter. It's available in a number of luscious finishes, but considering the $2,495 to $2,995 pricetag attached to this thing, we highly doubt you'll be picking this up solely for use as a conversation piece.

Imagine and ad from a Hospital: Donate your Kidney, pay $ 1500 and get a Kidney-shaped cd player!

What is with all these companies announcing their products at one price, but then releasing them at double the price? Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Consonance announce this last spring at $1,200?

Why would someone in their right mind even charge more than $50 for a CD player?
Sheesh.

I dunno. Why would anyone charge more than $35 for a keyboard? I guess they believe there are peeps out there with cash to burn.

This company is stucked in the 90s? That CD player would have worked in the market back in the olden days of highend CDplayers, but this is the new age of digital files and storage media... Next.

can someone please explain to me why (and we love you engadget!) it is neccessary to specifically note that it has a "wireless" remote. It seems redundant in the TWENTY FIRST CENTURY. (in 1980 or 79 i might have been overly impressed with a "wireless" REMOTE) Besides at this price it better be wireless!

A non-wireless remote on a three-grand CD player would be very steampunk.

Jitter? So they expect you to go jogging with this unit?

They removed the gallery link from their website, likely because they have no idea how to make a gallery that doesn't contain bandwidth-killing links.
So, here's the bandwidth-killing gallery (*grin*) : http://www.opera-consonance.com/gallery/gallery.htm

A CD is what you wave in the RIAA's face when they send the lawyers to your house.
