The user experience will make or break anyphone phone. Look at the Nokia N95 - a great set of features, but the user experience for the phone is terrible. The iPhone is about the user experience, it's not even about being touch screen (others did that before and got it wrong). Google exists because of the user experience of their search engine - simple, effective and rewarding. But to get into the mobile space you need the right philosophy of user experience - and it's NOT about open source developer platforms.
true, but the beauty of open source, it is should allow us to have some measure of control. If we dont like one interface, we should be able to go download another.

but of course the carriers could ruin that dream for us by locking the os up tight once it is made.
