J. Lo brings latest album to Gresso flash drive
Nah, J. Lo won't go down as the first artist to sell an album via flash drive, but she's certainly raising the bar concerning price. Apparently, Gresso has landed an agreement with Sony BMG Music Entertainment that allows it to distribute Lopez's "Brave" album on the Adam&Eve flash drive, which features 1GB of storage and is crafted from African Mahogany or African Blackwood. Word on the street has this one landing later this month for around $70, and while it's only a supposition, we could definitely see this thing selling better without the musical connection. wout @ Nov 5th 2007 8:43AM
ridiculous price. by the way
Trace The Hedgehog @ Nov 5th 2007 7:28PM
Hell yeah.
It's not even worth the money.

I thought Adam&Eve sold sex products...that is, so I heard somewhere....
STrRedWolf @ Nov 5th 2007 8:56AM
Wait... 1 gig Flash USB? That's at most $20 now. The "Brave" album is what, at most 21 songs of pure crud? So at most $21 although folks would probably want that cut down substantially.
21 3-minute songs at 256 kbps would be roughly under 120 Megs of storage, or 1/8th of the drive. It'll take roughly what, five minutes to slap that much of a disk image on the drive? Unless they got someone manually plugging 'em in and pushing a button... but even then I think $41 is a better price for this.

well mate, u forgot to read 'Mahagony' which adds to the price tag....or so i'd believe

This will go down in history as a double failure. Mrs Lopez album brave hasn't done well on the charts. Am I'm being generous here. Then on top of that, they put it on this piece of wood, and try to sell it for $70. They must be crazy. I can't see many girls in the barrio streets going crazy for this at the tune of $70. By the way, no album is worth $70. I don't care who the "artist" is.
BillyBones @ Nov 5th 2007 9:13AM
This will be a future Woot!. My guess is it will be found in a "bag of crap".
SubGenius @ Nov 5th 2007 9:37AM
Wish I had a woodworking shop. I would build one for myself(minus the J Lo crap).
I like the concept of the wooden USB disk as the plastic ones feel cheap and disposable.
Fank @ Nov 5th 2007 10:06AM
I saw the box and thought it was pancake mix powder
Wwhat @ Nov 5th 2007 10:11AM
african wood eh, why not latin american palm
tree wood? or coconutshell, she is after all from latin decent.
As for the price, mahogany IS a protected wood so I guess that would require certification and would push up the price, plus you can sell it as an antique later.

Engadget is wrong. It's made from a the rare and infamous Lopez Tree.

African Blackwood huh? That's extremely valuable, rare, and the tree itself is endangered. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African_Blackwood - I only know because I have some carvings www.blackwoodconservation.org/carving.html in blackwood that were handed down to me from my Grandmother who lived there and pucrchased them in the 1950s.
Ty @ Nov 5th 2007 10:28AM
Too bad for her. It doesn't matter if it's sold on cd, itunes, or given away for free, nobody wants this album it seems.
monkeyboy.dsg @ Nov 5th 2007 10:42AM
Whats with the link to the white strips being the first?
It Implies that they are the first when i know that the Barenaked Ladies have been doing the same thing for over a 2 years now. Guess what they sell them for the same amount as the cd cost. None of this overcharging other bands have tried.
Plus on top of that if you go to their concerts you can pay 10 extra dollars and wait 10 minutes after the show and you can have the full concert on a usb stick to take home.
And i forgot to mention DRM free.
fgfghfghfgh @ Nov 6th 2007 7:17AM
Actually, WIZO (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WIZO) have done this in 2004 already.
monkeyboy.dsg @ Nov 6th 2007 8:15AM
Cool cool never heard of them before.

Makes you wonder what kind of phallic-shaped device Paris Hilton is going to release her next album on. Blackwood indeed.
Wilder.K.Wight @ Nov 5th 2007 4:51PM
I'll give them $70 for the privilege of NOT having to hear or see JLo ever again.
Sirocco @ Nov 5th 2007 6:22PM
Remember music boxes?
G.Gone @ Nov 5th 2007 6:34PM
Jellyshirts (rock) put out a 1 gig Flashdrive with .wav files and an 8 minute video (making of), plus picture booklet, liner notes, album art, live links and more. All for $17.98 and available on IndepenDisc.com
If an Independent Band can do it this cheap, it makes you wonder which corporate shirts are getting rich off this?
Garst @ Nov 5th 2007 9:08PM
So Sony wasn't happy cramming a virus into what ever was left over on a CD. They now want an extra 300MB to do some massive damage. Not too concerned though, I wouldn't get J. Lo.'s music anyways. But with me, it's more that I just don't listen to her type of music than her herself.
Greg @ Nov 5th 2007 9:26PM
What's with the Lady and the Tramp vibe in the box design for this? Does J.Lo want to eat the product? Twice?
beats @ Nov 6th 2007 7:34AM
not worth the money and bi$#% is using rainforest wood....real F@#$ing smart....god she is such a b.
Alphaniner @ Nov 6th 2007 10:46AM
Did anybody actually go to the Gresso site to read about this? They no for speak the English much good. "Gresso company has invented a new, earlier not-existing way to sell music" Aside from that statement being completely false, I was under the impression that 'new' and 'earlier not existing' meant the same thing. Huh.
"The Album was relise on October 2007".
Uri @ Nov 6th 2007 11:56AM
Sorry J. Lo too late... Here in a little country called Uruguay (south america), a rock group (NTVG) was selling an mp4 player preloaded with the latest album material. I think this is not new (original) at all.
