very decent, very decent all in one. All probably put my money on this instead of the gateway one. I wanted an imac but for me its too pricey so heres an all in one with windows which im used too. I guess ill enjoy this.
What was the famous line "Redmond start your copy machines" lol its more like Dell took heart to that.
Seriously though, I can't belive people are buying into this, it really makes me wonder honestly if most people buying hardware are even that technologically "smart".
iMac ftw.
Flame suit on, I know I'm going to get Winboys beating me up over this...because they can't win arguemnts without ad homenium attacks.
I won't call this one decent or less expensive than an iMac until I see some specs from Dell, as well as prices. From what I've seen lately, customized Dells (to match stock iMac specs) come out at about the same price, typically within $100 either way.
(I'm not saying iMacs are inherently better - if you don't want wireless, bluetooth, firewire, or a webcam, for example, you can get a Dell without them and you'll save some money.)
Does anyone know what the refresh rate is on the new iMacs, as a friend had one set up with a TV tuner to be their main PC (using the hard drive as a DVR), and the smearing on fast moving images was terrible, and I've no idea if that was the fault of the iMac refresh rate or the TV tuner, as when there wasn't movement in the picture it looked fine.
@ Miker - Yes, displaying interlaced video on a progressive refresh display will always look terrible. You need to tell your friend to use deinterlacing.
Are people really still complaining about who's copying whom? As if every "new" device isn't just some evolution of a previous device. If some company can come along, copy a device (function or interface), and make it better in the process -not saying dell is-, then who cares if they've "copied" someone? Should all avenues/iterations be abandoned because someone else has already done it before? please...
If this draws a yawn, and it is nothing but a copy of an iMac (presumed), then the iMac itself must draw a yawn from you.
Hardware wise, they will most likely be very similar. Looks wise, well, thats subject to personal interpretation and is not in your power to determine which one looks better, except for your own personal satisfaction of you declaring you have better taste as you chose something that you yourself declare to be better looking.
You can configure a dell inspiron 1720 to a higher spec than the macbook pro 17" and save about $900, saving close to $1200 over the macbook with a freely available promo code.
I love apple software, but no way am i paying a $1000 premium for it.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
