Ixing's TM-M1 MP3 player: more nano than nano
When you call yourself "nano," you'd be wise to prepare for the onslaught of throne seeking waifs. In from stage Seoul comes this 5.6-mm slimster, the TM-M1 from Ixing. That's nearly 1-mm thiner than the iPod nano -- less than a quarter-inch thin. Announced at the IFA show, the TM-M1 is now available in 1, 2, and 4GB capacities with built-in FM radio (and recording). The 10-hour battery with 2-hour charge is pretty lackluster however, and that 1.5-inch, 65k color OLED won't win any awards either. Still, it's fracking thin and that has to count for something, right? Priced at about $100 for 2GB if you can track these down outside of S.Korea.

As a guy who has problems find the remote at times, I sure would hate to misplace one of these...I mean, just think where it could end up if it fell out of my jacket, say in my car or something.
Pretty soon they are going to have to make the headphone jacks smaller becuase these devices are getting to the point where they are going to be smaller than the jacks!

ive always wondered why they dont change the jacks smaller

It sounds like Thomas has been watching Battlestar Galactica.....

Watched BSG: Razor tonight. Fracking awesome!!! Long live the torrents!

I'm a totally different Thomas BTW.

Not so much as BSG, but more along the line of Blade Runner...i.e. "Tyrell: "More human than human" is our motto."

Damn I'm missing out on so much cool stuff by living in NZ. Time I moved this Mickey-Mouse operation I call my life to Asia, a.k.a. gadget-lovers utopia.

Personally, I don't have a feel for thin mp3 players. I mean it's cool and all, but I rather stick with hard drive players because of the large capacity.
Then again, this is a kick-ass looking device.

Have you seen how small a nano is? That's too small for me. It gets to a point of diminishing returns. I think the Touch is the ideal size for a player (and that could be thicker).
dj-kenpo @ Nov 7th 2007 1:38PM
the fact you used 'fracking' also has to count for soemthing. atleast in my books

Umm... What don't you get about the name "iPod nano"??? It's not just "nano". This means it's the most "nano" (smallest) standard iPod... Not that it's the smallest DMP out there. Hell, the iPod Shuffle is SMALLER than the iPod nano, too.
And does this TM-M1 play AAC, Apple Lossless, Audiobooks, MP4s, and AIFFs? If not, then why compare? If it's just an MP3 player, then it's clearly not competing in the same market as the iPod nano.
There are lots of tiny MP3 players. Hell, they make MP3-playing gift cards that are the size of a couple stacked credit cards- so this is not exactly a boon the market. It's just another piece of cheap Korean tech we'll find at flea markets, airport convenience stores, and all over eBay some day.

then again... does the ipod play radio? recording?
business people could discreetly record meetings, etc. with something small enough to just hide between two pieces of paper
emergencies when you might need a radio? (doubt it,but who knows)

when i'm listening to music on a mp3 player the last thing on my mind is the display - can someone get back to us about the audio hardware being used inside - SHURE can throw these in for free with their listening equipment :] only if SHURE made a mp3 player
PenaltyKillah @ Nov 9th 2007 1:21AM
FINALLY! This, and the Creative MuVo Slim (0.25in., just one 0.01in. than the nano)! But the nano's the slimmest video player...
cw @ Nov 9th 2007 11:00AM
so.....NO ONE is going to say anything about this looking like a "bootleg" Samsung?
if there's anything remotely circular on the front of a device, it's trying to it's damnedest to mimmick that which comes from the Holy Bitten Fruit...
;)
