Dell's 30-inch 3008WFP display to rock DisplayPort
Samsung's already claimed the title of first announced display to sport a DisplayPort connector, but it looks like Dell's about to enter the game with an upcoming 30-inch panel, the 3008WFP. The update to the much-loved 3007WFP will apparently feature the same 2560 x 1600 resolution, but input options are vastly improved: in addition to that DisplayPort, you're getting HDMI, VGA, component video, two DVI, S-Video, and composite. No word on any other improvements, but with that many inputs, we're pretty certain you can find something to plug into this thing and be happy. Now if only Dell would hurry up and ship that sweet-looking 30-inch DisplayPort concept we saw a while back, we'd be all set.

Sweet... I may update my 2405 to this but I know it will be expensive.
Wow... just two questions.
> 1. What is the panel type (S-IPS?)
> 2. Color range (e.g. 92%)
Is Display Port number 7?
Just looking at them...
1. A/C Power
2. 'nother power, I guess
3. 3.5mm audio jacks in/out (green/black)
4. Dunno. Maybe coaxial?
5. D-SUB
6. Component
7. DisplayPort
8. HDMI
9. Un, duex DVI ports
10. Composite video
11. S-Video
12. USB port for a HUB
13. USB ports
If it's anything like my 2407-HC, number 2 is for the attachable speaker.
That could explain what #4 is for.
It helps to read the article links, they clearly state:
QUOTE:
"Connector overview: 3 and 4 are speaker outputs (HDMI), 5 is D-SUB, 6 Component input, 7 is DisplayPort, 8 HDMI, 9 are DVI-D's, 10/11 TV in"
Speaker outputs, because HDMI and DisplayPort both carry audio signals through their cables. Could this possibly spell a the beginning of the end of the sound card market? Or will display manufacturers in the future adopt a standard "audio module architecture" allowing users to hotplug audio cards from bottoms, rear, or sides of the display? One can only dream and hope.

At 147-177 watts, the older model, 3007WFP used more energy than my old Trinitron GDM-F500 and GDM-5510 CRTs. Hopefully the newer 3008WFP performs much better in this area.
If only there was a price estimate...I can't see it going for anything under $700 :[
That would be incredible...but I'd be we are looking at something more like $1700, not $700.
Ah, I typo'd the $700, I did indeed mean $1700. $700 would be a sweet starting price though, eh?
Yikes, I just bought the Gateway 30"
Guess we'll see which one wins... the Dell wins so far for having a better stand and two DVIs
hehe...
PENIS
hehe...
you definitely went to the wrong blog.
WOW
that's Knocked Up
as long as your watching that penis on Dell's 30-inch 3008WFP display to rockin a DisplayPort its still relevant
sorry.
if anyone sitll reads the comments, that was my friend. hehe.
I would give up both my eyes for one of these.
Wait a tick...
Pricing will probably start at $1799 or so, then fall to $1499 within a year.
YES!!!!! I have been holding out 2707WFP hoping for an upgrade for either the 2707WFP or 3007WFP... looks like it will be here sooner rather than later!
I think i'm in love with a screen :( I've always wanted a dell panel but with HDMI for the xbox to stop the various Dell/Xbox VGA 1080p issues...
Ohh, my bank aren't gunna like me when this comes out in the UK. :)
Nice. would buy if it wasn't for the fact that my 1 year old 2007WFP is discoloring.
Why is a DisplayPort better than HDMI?
Because nom nom nom nom nom nom cash cakes nom nom.
Mainly, license-free/royalty-free, which means greater implementation in all devices if support for it picks up. Supports up to 10.8Gbit/sec. See:

The reason that Dell coul be releasing a monitor with a DisplayPort (like samsung) is because Samsung makes the Dell Monitors. They just take the unfinished monitor shipped from Samsung and put them in the Dell case with the Dell logo on it. Actually, Apple does the exact samething; both Dell and Apple monitors are made by samsung.
close but actually all three have their monitors made by another source.
Care to share who is the original manufacturer, then, Moe? I'd be really interested to find out who it is.
Devon
Phillips is the maker for all the 30" panels
WHAT THE F**K!
WHY ANOTHER PORT?!?
DisplayPort is royalty free, which means anyone wanting to use the connectors don't have to pay a licensing fee for every device (like you do with HDMI).
Excellent news! So this means these displays are finally getting an internal video scaler. Should be interesting to see the display tests with sources that are not natively 2560x1600 and/or not dual-link DVI, which were out of the question on the 3007WFP. The price should be interesting too.
You can run the 3007 with a single link card, but the highest resolution you can display is 1280 x 800.
R - That can't be right. A single link DVI can do 1920x1200.
Eric - Yes, Single link DVI can run upto 1920 x 1200 if the display supports it. The 3007 only accepts 1280 x 800 if a single link card is feeding it (This is a 1/4 of the native resolution so it can just do a 4 to 1 mapping). The 3007 doesn't have a scaler so any scaling is always done by the display card not the 3007. I have ran single link dvi with my 3007 in a pinch a few times and the maximum resolution is 1280 x 800.
I think this is good news, I'm happy with my current Dell 30" and would buy another large Dell screen if they made a 36" model.
I actually busted a nut when I read the title.
I then proceeded to shat my pants as I saw the pictures and details.
I am a happy man.
LOL, that was funny
@Richard if it is a samsung panel as others have said I would imagine it is S-PVA
Wait... Where is the webcam ?
It's frustrating to get a high-end screen, without all "options"
I think I just creamed in my pants...
I actually had a 3007WFP shipped to me on accident when I bought my 2407, and ended up returning it because it didn't have VGA or Component in, so that I could hook up my DVD player and my laptop to it. Now that the 3008WPF will, I am going to have to start pinching pennies in order to afford one of these monsters...
you crazy!! you actually return it!!!
Well at the time I only had a 6600GT which didn't support dual link, so the 3007 wouldn't have been much use to me. And I didn't really return it, I kind of sold it, bought another 2407, and pocketed the difference.
im sitting in front of the 3007wfp-hc... best screen ever! got it for 800$$$!!!
Uh... may I ask how?
quite simple, im in japan and here that screen is 130000 yen, around 1150$... I buyed a computer with a 20inch screen but didnt like the spec of the new dell screen, low color fidelity for graphic design... then I called dell and asked if I could replace the 20" with the last ultrasharp screen on the jp dell site, the 3007... after few call, they accepted. now that screen passed on my computer deal with 200$ off and 14% off, just like the 20inch was suppose to be... here what I paid;
Vostro200 TM, Dual 2 core 3.0ghz, 1gb of ram (cause ram is cheap here), 8600gt and a wonderful 3007 screen...
for 1700$!! they even paid the delivery (-100$) best deal ever, this is the price of the screen only in canada...
banzaiiiii japaaaaaan!
really Dell are really sweet on the phone... and in japan you really got tons of good deals if you watch carefully the site...
No mention of the ability to scale. Not interested until that little tidbit of info comes out.
I'd also like them to "leak" more about the OSD of the new model.
Nevermind - I read the original Inq article.
I'm not a huge fan of their PCs, but I'll be damned if they don't do the best monitors around
Yeah, my 2005FPW is still serving me well... Dell makes good monitors. If only I had the money for one of these big ones...
