Don't feel bad, we're getting just as tired of hearing all about the Optimus Maximus. Granted, all that will hopefully change once we actually get one in our hands, but we digress. The latest posting on the Optimus Maximus site shows the oh-so-admired keyboard (in black andwhite, mind you) changing layouts before our very eyes. Unfortunately, the clip is only bound to make you more frustrated with the wait, but c'mon, it's not like you're gonna hold off or anything. Check it out after the break.
The price is too prohibitive. Nobody in their right mind would spend $1,500 on this thing. Better to just wait a bit for the copycats to enter the market and drop the price. This is one of those products where people are going to laugh at the launch cost years from now; like the first laser printer or something.
Hopefully they will have a 2 tone led keyboard that will be ALOT cheaper someday.. full color keyboards are cool, but are totally useless. I would be a lot more satisfied if they made a black and white lcd keyboard for a alot less money. I find it hard to imagine an everyday use for this keyboard, or even a gaming use for this keyboard. The only big use I could see is like the guy above said. Something like audio/video/graphics people that use multiple programs.
Too costly and too boring. Who really needs a keyboard that can change colours? The keys are great for applications, *WHEN* applications start to support this. But really, your not going to remap your Qwerty keyboard as everyone knows how to type on it..
I could see cool uses when applications start to support it.. like I open up my email app and each key is remapped to a new email. I push the key to open the email? or maybe the same for IM. But then these are really wanky uses, its easier to click with the mouse.
This thing is going to be hot, probably not quite hot enough to burn your fingers but it uses over 100Watts which, in a light bulb, is hot. From their site: Is Optimus AC-powered? Yes, a PC would not be able to power the keyboard (19V, ~6А) on its own.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
I also enjoy watching paint dry.
Crappiest. Video. Ever.
I hope they sell one of these things, and then buy a decent video camera so we can actually see WTF they are showing in the new video they will make.

Why would somebody write an application that uses hardware nobody has yet?
It's a vicious cycle.
@balderdash : That was my point!
So these guys are selling $1500 keyboards, but they can't afford to buy a tripod for their video camera?
$1,500? thanks, i'll pass!
The keys should use digital ink. Sure, no color - but it makes a lot more sense. Think about it for a minute.
This has to be one of the coolest things I've ever seen but it's still pointless unless it's under $200.

Good on a cold day though.
