As far as these surround sound bars go, Yamaha seems to have
made quite the
name for
itself, but it looks like Polk Audio is offering up another iteration in its own lineup to compete. The SurroundBar 360 DVD Theater features a single 44-inch long speaker that purportedly provides a 5.1-channel experience "using patented SDA technology." Furthermore, the system looks to come with a dedicated DVD console, but we've no idea if the pair will ever be offered up separately. No word on price / availability at the moment, but we're expecting Polk to spill the rest of the beans sooner rather than later.

Not sure how this could possibly provide sound from the rear satellites, but if you dont want wires all over your household or dont have the cash to spend on a wireless system this is probably ones only option for surround?

Get at least a 'Home theater in a box'...I doubt this thing can create 'real' surround sound seeing how all of the speakers are in one spot...

They know is not "real" surround sound. It'll do the best it can and like Josh said, it's for those who don't want to run wires all over. I have a virtual surround speaker/subwoofer system from Sharp and it sounds fine for me. Granted it's not like I hear anything behind me but I don't need a receiver/amp and the connections are simple.

"As far as these surround sound bars go, Yamaha seems to have made quite the name for itself" Um Philips Soundbar anyone?
Don't like the separate DVD system. It pretty much wrecks the point of this elegant single bar. May as well use just any Amp+DVD.

I have a Yamaha YSP-3000 sound projector with Sub and in a small room it is the perfect audio solution. Yamaha spent a lot of time and revisions to get it right though, so I don't know if Polk can just jump right into the party.

When you say a "small room", how small are we talking about? I have an 18x18 room that I want to use the Yamaha speaker in but if it isn't conducive in that size room, I don't want to chase it.

My room is 10x11. The sound will fill any room the best with four solid walls in a rectangular pattern and as little furniture as possible. For me it is the perfect nearly wireless solution for audio. However, some people like very loud, picture rattling, sound and these sound bars would not be for them.

I just unpacked my ysp-4000 and although it's not perfect, it's pretty damn good. If i close my eyes, and do channel testing on the 5 beam setting, I can distinctly hear the surround left and right channels coming from behind me...and the front right and left channels are even more pronounced. The over-all sound quality is really nice, although I'm no audiophile. I'm sure for the same amount of money I could have gotten a nice 5.1 setup, or 4 inches of pear cable, but it works for my situation.
