They know is not "real" surround sound. It'll do the best it can and like Josh said, it's for those who don't want to run wires all over. I have a virtual surround speaker/subwoofer system from Sharp and it sounds fine for me. Granted it's not like I hear anything behind me but I don't need a receiver/amp and the connections are simple.
