Samsung rolls out second generation WiMax devices in Korea
While Sprint teases us with their beleaguered WiMax offering, Samsung is already shipping product for KT's and SKT's year-old WiBro service in South Korea. In fact, they've already moved onto their second generation of devices available starting today. The list includes the SPH-9200 HSDPA, WiFi, and Mobile WiMax totin' butterfly XP device we've seen before. New, is that pair of SPH-H1300 and SWT-H200K USB Mobile WiMax modems and CDMA SPH-M8200 candybar running Windows Mobile 6 on EV-DO and Mobile WiMax data beneath that biggie touchscreen display. Now please Google, just cut to the chase and acquire Sprint so that we can get a taste of that high-speed mobile data on a homegrown frequency, too. Pretty please, with sugar?

If anything, Google should acquire Verizon Wireless so that it will have access to LTE technology if Verzion chooses to pursue LTE. WiMAX is in a downwards spiral, and LTE is the wireless broadband technology of the future.

Downward spiral? If Sprint pushes out phones/UMPCs like this (more likely to be Helio since they're the ones owned by SK Telecom) LTE will not be in any position to compete. More importantly, WiMax has already been deployed and is flourishing. LTE is still sitting in the planning stages, unless you can point me at anywhere that uses it right now.

OK, I'll be the first to admit it. I'd hit it. Yes, both of them.

We here in the states are the red-headed stepchildren of the wireless world. Asia gets all the good stuff. Then again, all that radiation can't be good. . .

I live in South Korea. I had a chance to play around with WiMax a while ago on both a laptop and that SPH-H1300 being held in the picture (well, not thos EXACT ones ;). Verdict:
Laptop access= fantastic, just like a wired connection for everyday use (didn't test gaming)
SPH-H1300 = not so fantastic, browser was quite sluggish.
This was about 2 months ago, so there is a chance it was a pre-release model.

Gotta love how American cell phone companies continue in their ridiculous multistandard wars. It is one thing when you have a small area to cover, but with such a large country with low average density, consumers would be much better off with a single standard, as would providers since they would not have to do an entire buildout and could license off of one another regionally.
But instead we get this same crap that has been hampering the US market for years. I would love it if one standard, and I don't care which, would just dominate this generation.

Worldwide, that is. Most operators see LTE as their preferred evolved 3G choice, because of its flexibility and handover capabilities. Sprint is one of the few who are committed to WiMAX, while T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless, DoCoMo and many more are focusing on LTE. So right now, WiMAX has the lead when it comes to deployed systems, but in a few years, I am confident LTE will dominate the market and marginalize WiMAX.

That is a great pic. I like the styles over there... very hot.

Honestly I don't think we will ever get Wimax. The idea for wireless companies to give some people what they want is not going to happen.
PROBLEM Most people don't care about cell phones they just want to turn it on and talk. Only a small community of people who want more.
I think the only way to get Wimax here is if Google buys Sprint Sells all it's CDMA crap and Launches Wimax and let's Freedom Ring
My opinion though
