You say you don't even own an mp3 player, but you're probably a closet Apple fanboy.

The iPod will never support XviD/DivX. Supposedly h.264 is superior to both of them. In theory, Perian could probably be written for use on the iPod to play both formats, but that's just a pipe dream.
