So while the
Zune 2 launch seems to be humming right along, we've noticed that the big daddy Zune 80 doesn't seem to be available anywhere -- and that it's oddly listed as "not available in stores" on a couple retailer websites. That's pretty strange, especially since we've spotted a number of
floor displays for the Zune line that include the Zune 80, but damned if anyone has actually seen the thing -- and we're hearing that Best Buy employees can't even order them for in-store customers. As of right now, Target and Best Buy are both displaying no-store-sales messages on their sites, Circuit City just has the 80 as out of stock and Wal-Mart doesn't even have it listed. We've been told by sources that while the Zune 80 is in short supply, it will eventually be on store shelves, but when that'll happen is still the big question -- and if anyone has actually seen one for sale, let us know in comments.
Oh my god, I really can't understand everyone freaking out about Ryan's comments and now arguing again about this or any other product competition. You know what the best thing about capitalism is? YOU CAN CHOOSE! Each person can have their different opinions without trying to force those upon other consumers. What does it really matter if the guy/girl next to you likes the ipod, or likes the zune? Why try and force your opinion on others? Vote with your $$.
I had a pre-order at Amazon that didn't ship on time. They pushed me back to the 25th or 26th, and I'd had the pre-order in since it showed up on their page. I canceled that and went to 3 Target stores, Best Buy, Circuit City, and a few others before I found an 80GB at Walmart of all places. Got their last one too. The guy there said they only got 1 box worth to begin with.
I ordered it online at CircuitCity.com for in-store pickup yesterday. Only 1 of the 3 area stores had it for in store pickup, none had it for online only. I think I go the last one though because as soon as I got back home I checked again and it was out of stock. This was in Portland, Or.
Um I pre-ordered one at Circuit City (like at the store)like a month ago, and yesterday i called to ask if they had any in yet. They told me no, but another CC a couple miles away did. I went to the other store, and their inventory said they had just one, but it wasn't on display and not with the flash based zunes. They had already taken my money, and were feeling a little panicked that they couldn't find my product. Well right before i was about to give up, and assume the 80s hadn't hit yet- my nice underpaid Circuit City worker found ONE in a box in the back room.
YES!
So i have been rocking my 80GB zune since last night, best HDD player period out there!
I preordered at Amazon and now I am being told it is backordered with no promise as to when they will get more. Preordering was no guarantee.
gawd, is Circuit City the only store that had them? I tried buy.com, bestbuy.com, amazon.com, walmart.com, and target.com. They were all out for a few days or weeks even. CC had them ready to ship, and I got a 25 dollar gift card. I am probably going to use that on a case when some good ones come out. But I did notice that the CC units were moving out quickly as I watched as stores that had them available for instore pick up vanished from the list of options. I just had one overnighted. Glad I got my Zune 80. I get to be smug for a couple of weeks :)
I was just at circuit city yesterday and got my new 80 Gig, you can check out my unboxing here for some proof-

EVERYONE!!! I HAVE SEEN AND PURCHASED A 80GB ZUNE, IF YOU WANT PICTURES OR HAVE QUESTIONS LET ME KNOW, I FOUND IT AT A CIRCUIT CITY IN THE EAST BAY (CA), WHEN I GOT IT, THEY WERE ON THE SHELFS BUT HAD NOT BEEN SCANNED IN AND THEY HAD TROUBLE FINDING IT THE SYSTEM AND SELLING IT TO ME. BUT I GOT IT!!! AND ITS AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!
I bought one on the 13th and it was in stock at mu circuit city in Schererville, Indiana.
Ya, I found 1 yesterday at circuit city and bought it. I checked best buy, costco, and the circuit. So, they are out there, just in short supply.
Glad I saw this. I've tried yesterday and today for the 80 at two different Best Buy locations. One of them tried to convince me that Microsoft was not making an 80GB player, and that the highest they would ever have was the 30GB.
However, both stores say that the earliest they'll have it is this Friday, if at all.
Best Buy, Target, and the little guys were all out of it, but I snagged mine from Circuit City. Damn this thing is nice (when the clerk brought out the box, I thought it was the flash one...)
I have one. See http://blogs.technet.com/keithcombs/archive/2007/11/13/running-the-zune-80-on-apple-os-x-v10-5.aspx. I got it Tuesday morning at the CC near my house. I'm sure they are all gone now.
So why isn't MS sticking to the Apple standard. Why are the 3 button which are suposed to be in the top left corner in the top right and why do they look like Windows buttons. This is one reason why I wouldn't want to use MS software on my Mac. And as for the Zune. Why is it still only available in the US. How stupid can these people at MS be not to release it outside of the US. I cannot be only that they still (!) don't have an agreement with record companies. So, as a true Apple user, my next MP3 player will be an iPhone.
I picked up one from a Walmart in Washington state (Yakima) yesterday while I'm out travelling around. It was the last one, but it's mine now... all mine. And it is a very goood product.
Got my 80 tuesday. sweeeeeet. Last one @ circuit city tho.
Zunes are amazing, period. And iPods are amazing, period. Its just the question of who wants more videos, or who wants more options when it come to features. Get an iPod if you like alot of Movies, tv shows, and ease of use. Get a Zune if you like radio, Sending songs, and all the other little things like custom wallpapers and whatnot. I, myself am a Zune 80 owner. But I also had a few iPods/ like the 5g video and 2nd gen nano. They were both good, but I like zunes added features over tv show and some movies I will never watch. So it all comes down to what you prefer, its not obvious which is the better media player.
Just ordered a Zune 80 on Zune Originals Today!
