Green House's Gaudi cam is nothing special
Nothing standout here, but that doesn't mean this little flash-based camera from Green House isn't right for someone. The Gaudi sports an SD card slot for capturing your VGA video, QVGA video and 5 megapixel stills, with a 1.7-inch screen to preview it all. Gaudi maxes out on 2GB SD cards, and there's nothing fancy happening in codec land: video is recorded in AVI. That said, this thing goes for a mere 13,800 Yen ($125 US), so if you're in Japan and need a nice "disposable" tourist-cam... well, you could probably just use your phone and save on the bulk, so forget the whole deal.

Damn, I wouldn't a $125 anything "disposable."
Could you share some of your "disposable" income with me too.
just the thing for my gaudy videos.
"...so forget the whole deal." Priceless. I love Engadget.
Zing!
You know, I'm kind of now wondering why they don't make Digital Picture Cameras in this type of shape yet.. For families it'd be kind of neat, small, and u don't need 2 hands to take pictures.
You could get nice quick point and shoot shots.
oh my Gaudi!
Wait... these look really familiar..

Definitely just a DXG 305 camera with a 5.0 Megapixel CMOS sensor... Plus, I doubt this will be able to take the new High density SD cards, so you're stuck with at most 2gb.
Plus, since it's so small and light, but doesn't have image stab, you'll need to carry around a mini-tripod to be able to take really good pictures anyway.
Figured something named "Gaudi" would be a bit more colorful than this.
(Not making a "gaudy" joke-- referring to the Barcelonan architect)
"and there's nothing fancy happening in codec land: video is recorded in AVI"
Er, since an AVI file is a media container and is capable of holding audio and video content recorded in a multitude of different codecs, saying that makes no sense. Even if you meant that since it's using AVI files instead of MPG or MP4 which are designed for newer/more advanced codecs, stuff that was never intended to be put into AVI files can be stored inside (e.g. DivX/XviD videos).
Yes, I realize that Green House is to blame for the lack of video codec specs and a vague "The video recording system: AVI" (Google translation) description, but seeing that line of text from a tech-savvy site is disappointing.
