Sony Ericsson recalls all W910s sold on Orange
Early adopters of Sony Ericsson's W910i on the Orange network may have noticed that their phones suffer a tiny little flaw -- shutting down 10 seconds into a phone call. The bug only wormed its way into a small number of W910s sold by Orange, but the two companies aren't taking any chances -- they've recalled every W910i sold thus far for inspection and repair / replacement. Models in stores now are apparently fine, but we're hearing scattered reports of replacements having the same problem as well. No word on what's causing the problem, but we can't seem to get through to SE to get more details -- the call keeps ending, for some reason.

LOL! Looks like this orange went sour.
Surely even with a small amount of testing this bug would have been noticed? Hopefully they haven't sold too many otherwise I guess this is an expensive mistake to learn from.

Hilarious!
pwned
SE phones have more bugs than an insect meet but I still love them
Seems like the issue here is that the Orange customized firmware seems to be iffy. We can thank all our carriers for modifying the original firmwares of phones and causing all these problems.
hahah exactly my take, so many flaws yet i cant get myself to part ways with SE phones. just got an ATT W580i (little brother of the W910)
I bought this phone in Taiwan and broght it back to Canada, a beautiful gold/brown coloured one. Although I don't suffer the automatic-hangups, my phone does reboot itself whenever I try to browse the pictures that I took using camera/media interface.
This happens about 1 week after the purchase. I am still tring to solve the problem but I am just a bit too lazy to try full system reset, delete photo/reset etc etc.
wow..just wow i didnt know you could use this site as a journal! no offense but i cant seem to find the heading or link here that says Sony ericsson Technical support click here? You know you will eventually be asked to do reset it so get off your lazy ass and backup your phone then reset it b4 making any complains...oh and buy a diary!
jeez, chill out man.
the post is about the W910 and bugs so the above comment is as relevant as it gets.
I had a P990i for a very brief period - sold it b/c it had way too many bugs. same firmware as the W910 so I am not all surprised. that firmware is so buggy SE would be best off just throwing it away and starting over.
At least it's not a flaw in the most important feature of the phone, you know, like calling people...oh wait.
I don't see how companies skip testing their phones. It can't be all that expensive (hell, they could probably get it done for free, I would), but the cost of not testing really comes back to bite them.
I think it's because the firmware on these phones is flawed beyond repair.
There is a point where any fix to a software product is causing two more bugs. This is the point that I think this firmware has reached. And the only way out is to throw it away and start over.
Shame about the gorgeous hardware!
Sounds like it would go good with Android :D
do* dammit
Again, Sony lets us all know how it does not give a shit about the people who are dumb enough to purchase their products.
Too bad fanbois are too ignorant and blind to see through their own stupidity that Sony sucks and hates the people who purchase the shit that they try to manufacture.
uh they did a recall. they care enough to ask for them back to be replaced/repaired. how many xbox 360 or razr shit phones or starcomm 6700 junk have been recalled for 100+ reasons?
@moe
Although everyone I knew told me not to get a sony cell phone (including people who work in the cell phone industry) I went ahead an got a W600i for it's features. Of coarse soon after that cingular dropped it from their line up because of the consistent amount of problems it had. The same problems I started having. And after reading forums problems a lot of sony phones(edit: sony products) have.
Trust me their not doing this because they care about the consumer. Their doing this because the problem was big enough that it would come back to bite them in the ass TOO much.
I'm on my 3rd replacement now and as soon as the time comes to renew the contract I'm going back to nokia or samsung.
Sony Ericsson's on a roll! First the breaking keys problem with the w580i and s500i, now this... next we're going to hear their phones sometimes murder people!
Sony "Like No Other"
got mine yesterday and it seems to be working fine. it actually has less bugs than my w850, which had less than the nokia n70 before that.
the ui and phone is solid.. its not a jesus phone, but it will do.
The last thing Orange want to be selling is lemons (ducks).
I had a W910 from 3, and was very surprised at how little software customisation they'd done - worked really well, but I can't stand the fact that most walkman phones I've ever used have a very quiet earpiece. Back to my N95, which is nice and loud.
lols @ Orange for butchering their version of the phone.. serves them right for insisting on having the red version exclusive to them.
