Sony's Cyber-shot DSC-T2 reviewed
CNET has a review of Sony's new Cyber-shot DSC-T2 up, and the verdict seems to be "well above average," with a 7.4 score. The case is bit on the podgy side, although if you don't mind that it's well designed otherwise with a hefty lens protector taking up the front and a large 2.7-inch touchscreen taking up the back. That touchscreen has problems, with the review pointing to responsiveness issues. The 4GB internal storage is also nice, but the ridiculous proprietary cable means if you lose the one in the box during your vacay, you're screwed. Image quality and performance is nothing to go crazy over, and you'll probably be happy with it if you've used an equivalently priced digicam recently. Overall, the flaws in the integrated storage and the touchscreen mean this is a bit of a letdown. Go for the T200 instead.

The iPhone doesn't come in this color.
That belongs specifically to the iPod, Crayola, and now Sony.
iRobot @ Nov 20th 2007 7:45PM
The iPhone is only 2 Mega Pixels camera, and shares it's 8 Gig of memory with the phone and the OS. While this item is a dedicated camera that's 8 mega Pixels. So you're comparing apples and bicycles?

I rather use memory stick, coz i have a vaio, which makes it easier to transfer.

"The case is bit of the podgy side..."
What? I think you mean, "The case is a bit on the pudgy side." Did "podgy" really get by spell check?
Reader @ Nov 16th 2007 12:26AM
Podgy is in fact a word, albeit uncommon, still a word. Just because firefox tells you it's wrong doesn't mean there is no such word as podgy. Look it up in a dictionary.

The design is quite pleasing to the eye actually. The variety of colors are nice too. Dunno what the image quality is like, but I'm sure it's passable. The only thing that peeves me is Sony's obsession with thrusting proprietary things into customers faces. Why Sony, why!?

"the ridiculous proprietary cable"
what happened to the good old USB ?
Yubastard @ Nov 16th 2007 12:31AM
down the toilet... my girlfriend has one of these, and everytime she comes to my place, she can't give me the pics from the night before 'cuz she forgot the propietary cable and good ol' USB cables are a no-no.
KC @ Nov 16th 2007 4:12AM
@holycow, the cable has a splitter in it for USB as well as an output for the TV to view the pictures.
@Yubastard, you can get a multiformat memory card reader for under $15 nowadays, so what's the big issue with that?
DakStaka @ Nov 16th 2007 8:35AM
Everyone has a mini usb laying around... just use the standard Sony.
Come on even the phone boys are using USB as the mandated next generation charge form factor to reduce the landfill effect of that endless stockpile of chargers.
holycow @ Nov 16th 2007 10:49AM
oh so it does have the option of plugging in the mini usb... now i just gotta wait till they release it in canada..
Reader @ Nov 16th 2007 12:27AM
I have a prejudice against baby-esque colors. Black one is looking pretty fine though.
Casey @ Nov 16th 2007 1:54AM
I just prefer to not get Sony cameras at all.
Stick with Canon.
Jamesology @ Nov 16th 2007 4:59AM
LMAO Canon... Oh yeah those fragile lil things. Sorry but Sony cameras are pretty durable and pocket-able*(my own word). I had two Canons SD420 and SD700 and both screens crack while in its case in my Murse. My old Sony T5 has not broke yet even in my pocket with no case. Now I have a Sony T100 and a Nikon D80.
Also, the IPhone Pic quality is a joke. Even my old Samsung A900m takes as good pics at 1.3MP
Casey @ Nov 16th 2007 12:44PM
I was talking more along the lines of picture quality more so than durability between Sonys and Canons, but if you want to take that road we can...
How long do you actually think Sony's touchscreens will hold up? I work in the DI department at Best Buy and from playing with the T series cameras during slow shopping times, I can personally tell you that they have a lot of work to do on the strength of their displays. It's a cool thing because everyone wants touchscreens these days and Sony knows it. Being one of the only brands with touchscreens on their newest cameras is their gimmick because they know it will sell regardless of how crappy the lifetime is on the screens. Nothing can ever beat good, old fashioned buttons (at least on cameras that is).
And don't get me started on internal lenses... People think having a compacted lens is such a cool thing... Why? So you can shed off 2 or 3 three inches when the thing is turned off? Internal lens = darker pictures. Call me strange, but I would much rather have an extending lens than sacrifice any picture quality.
As I said before, Canons from a PHOTOGRAPHIC standpoint is a far more superior product than any Sony. If your Canons crapped out on you, maybe you should've gotten the accidental protection from wherever you got them... It couldn't have been more than $50 for two year coverage for each camera...
Jamesology @ Nov 16th 2007 3:56PM
So, Sony is the only one with the touch screen so far yet yet still to improve and getting better on adapting new tech with old. Yet I know for a fact I still can use the screen when it's not broken. Why don't you search on the "World Wide Web on how well known Canon screens are. I didn't believe it b/c, well, it's a Canon and everyone should love Canons, until I got two. Not one, but two.
With the lenses shaved off, the pic quality is not D80 standards but hey that why I bought a D80. Even my D80 being drop, thinking it was fragile, did not break. Hmm go figure. The only reason Sony cameras does poorly in pic quality at times is the flash. Their flash distance mostly has a range of 2m averaging. But daylight, you can't even compare. You have to actually use it to know, not just playing with it on a pedestal.
Also, I did get extended warranties and my SD420 fixed once waited two weeks and got it back and broke after two months.
