What kind of self respecting consumer electronics nerd would hang out all night in the freezing-ass cold just to try their hand at maybe picking up a reduced-price gadget of some kind or another? Don't bother, just hang out here at Engadget, we'll be covering the best online deals for Black Friday, and we'll also be giving away a couple grand in gadgets ourselves. Seriously, it's gonna be fun, way better than whatever you've got planned.
P.S. -Mr. Ginn, if you're out there, we formally apologize for using your iconography to promote mass consumerism. Big fans.

No worse than when Nike stole from Minor Threat.
Ryan Block @ Nov 19th 2007 4:36PM
Oh man, that was SO wrong. I mean, at least a lot of us at Engadget are (or at least were) punk.
Mark Galvan @ Nov 19th 2007 5:39PM
Greg Ginn should be apologizing for what SST did to Negativland.
Ellianth @ Nov 19th 2007 8:08PM
Will this be US only? i don't wanna get my hopes up for noting!
JCA @ Nov 21st 2007 1:15PM
Is this "giveaway" going to be like the handful of other "giveaways" in which nothing got given away? Yea thats fine that you don't want to release people's names but I've seen you guys do it in the past. BOOYAH! In your face Engadget....burn!
Lets face facts. The "Trick my home theater" contest was as real as the hope and dreams I had shattered after finding out the contest was HorseSh!t.
Bob @ Nov 19th 2007 4:24PM
Open to Canadians too?
Jeff @ Nov 19th 2007 4:26PM
That's a joke right?
CharlieX @ Nov 19th 2007 4:56PM
Take off! You hoser!
Mark from the United States of Canadiana @ Nov 19th 2007 5:22PM
Take no offence they're just jealous that our money is worth less than yours these days! ;)
Dan @ Nov 19th 2007 6:49PM
Haha, for one... this has nothing to do with canadians at all, you guys have your silly little boxing day. second, I didn't know we had an economist in the building. Last I checked the canadian dollar being strong than the US means for future sinkhole being as most major commodities are based in US dollars. Plus you fool keep dumping your money into our consumer good with little regard for the larger consequences. Silly canadians, celebrate your "strong looney" or whatever the f its called while you can.
Canman99 @ Nov 19th 2007 7:03PM
Yeah, at least boxing day doesn't involve people getting trampled to death.
Second of all, enjoy your recession down there:-)
MARSHAK @ Nov 19th 2007 7:08PM
Canman99, you've never been to the eatons centre on boxing day.
ThomaS @ Nov 19th 2007 4:27PM
wordwilde giveaway?
sodapop @ Nov 19th 2007 4:32PM
Stealing the Black Flag logo for the greatest consumer shopping day of the year? Why dont yu just ride up to the band members and smear crap in their faces.
Dusty Nipples @ Nov 19th 2007 5:43PM
Didn't Henry Rollins already do that?
brad77 @ Nov 19th 2007 6:28PM

Peter @ Nov 19th 2007 4:35PM
You guys gonna release the names of the winners this time?
encosion @ Nov 19th 2007 4:38PM
That's hardly an apology... Pretty lame guys!
Leglez @ Nov 19th 2007 4:39PM
Awesome! This will be the first engadget giveaway I have been part of
Mile @ Nov 19th 2007 4:40PM
I would like to be the win, please.
Tyler @ Nov 19th 2007 4:44PM
This'll be fun, can't wait!
allston @ Nov 19th 2007 4:45PM
do we care about canadians???
Ghen @ Nov 19th 2007 4:46PM
PLEASE PEOPLE - be nice to retail employees.. One of them is my wife and she's been loosing sleep thinking about how horrible black friday is going to be. This is her third year and its -not- getting better.
So be nice! And know that some of the employees have to work 12+ hour shifts multiple days that weekend while you get your shop on.
Drew @ Nov 19th 2007 4:54PM
Amen. I worked quite a few black Fridays and they are HORRIBLE. I have seen some of the meanest things on that day. People pushing old ladies out of the way for a $5 jumpdrive. People bowled over for the POS $200 laptop.
The vouchers don't help ANYTHING.
Luke @ Nov 19th 2007 5:42PM
+1
I saw people get violent over a 512 flash drive last year. People seem to loose their minds over cheap crap.
Grant @ Nov 19th 2007 7:15PM
i kinda feel like it's just free entertainment for the employees.
If they step back, and not care about how obnoxious and stressed out people are going to be rude to them, they can really just enjoy "Shoppers gone wild".
I've done a black friday before and it is pretty fucking nuts, but as long as you disconnect yourself from any sort of expectations from humanity, it becomes quite hilarious.
It turns out 80 year old women with walkers can run pretty fast if there's only one left.
shelterpaw @ Nov 19th 2007 7:39PM
Make sure to bring your rifle and extra ammo, it's shopping season. It's almost as fun as tourist season.
Alex Padilla @ Nov 19th 2007 4:46PM
I'm already disappointed for not winning.
CUBSWILLWIN @ Nov 19th 2007 5:03PM
You're not alone, my friend
richardofthe1000yaos @ Nov 19th 2007 10:26PM
he's wrong- you're all alone... so very very lonely.
Will Merydith @ Nov 19th 2007 4:54PM
When I saw this post in my Google Reader the first thing I thought was,
"I hope Henry Rollins kicks your ass to next Wednesday!"
And I do.
Flinkman @ Nov 19th 2007 4:55PM
Oh, pick meee!!! Wait a minute...
Anyway, did anybody won something in 100 gadget giveaway???
Peter @ Nov 19th 2007 5:00PM
Engadget says people did, but they say they have a policy of "not releasing the names of contest winners". Apparently they don't understand that by not releasing names of winners, the contest is pretty much just hype and is completely fake.
Cris @ Nov 19th 2007 6:42PM
I did! Happy owner of a cingular 3125... tyvm Engadget!
CUBSWILLWIN @ Nov 19th 2007 5:02PM
Peter you have a point. The giveaways could have been fake...
Odd TSi @ Nov 19th 2007 5:16PM
I'm declaring that all Engadget giveaways are fake, not because they don't release the names of the winners but because I haven't won anything. So Engadget, if you want to prove they're real (at least in my mind) you'll have to give me something good this time around.
Sean @ Nov 19th 2007 5:48PM
I also agree that it is odd they don't report who won. Yet - i certainly won't stop entering every time. Can't hurt, right?
Poolie Girl @ Nov 19th 2007 5:48PM
I did and it sounds superbbbbbbbbbbbbbb....!
Ryan Block @ Nov 19th 2007 6:25PM
That makes no sense. Not everyone wants their name released. Plus it makes no difference, we could just make up names. Here, I'll make some up for you. The last five contests were won by: James L, Alan P, Eli R, Tom C, and Michael D. Feel better?
Alex Padilla @ Nov 19th 2007 6:43PM
while it's somewhat amusing seeing Ryan Block defending himself every other post, it has been getting old.
why does everyone have to be a goddam conspiracy theorist these days?
DarkLightConnection @ Nov 19th 2007 7:02PM
@Ryan
No, i'd not like to have my name released... but that's why we have a nickname :-)
CUBSWILLWIN @ Nov 19th 2007 5:01PM
You know office depot is giving logitech webcams for 5 dollars on black friday...
Kyle @ Nov 19th 2007 5:04PM
