JVC Victor gets official with 4k x 2k DLA-SH4K projector
Not even two months after JVC Victor showcased its (then unnamed) 4k x 2k projector at CEATEC, the firm has finally come clean and given said unit a proper title and release time frame. The DLA-SH4K, which obviously packs that awe-inspiring 4k D-ILA chip, touts a 4,096 x 2,400 resolution, 10,000:1 contrast ratio, 3,500 lumens, a dual-link DVI input, multiscreen mode, an Ethernet port for remote operation and RS-232 / USB connectors to boot. Additionally, this thing will even email its owner when the time comes to replace the lamp or if some error occurs within, and while it's still sporting the elusive "open price," interested consumers will have their chance to take one home in January 2008.

JVC Victor eh? JVCV? Japan Victor Corporation Victor? Or are you saying that Japan Victor Corporation is the Victor for this model?

Is there a video scaler that will scale to 4k? Also, what is the likely range on "open pricing"? If it is over $30K, then I won't bother even daydreaming about it.

Your several thousand dollar external scalers / video processors such as Lumagen, DVDO, Algolith, Vigatec, Cinemateq, Runco, Vantage, or Crystalio certainly cannot display 4k at this point in time; I would be suprised if they didn't in the next year or so.

The DLA-SH4K ... sounds l33t "DLA SHACK"

Well, with that kind of resolution and high brightness it's pretty much guaranteed to be at least $10k. Unless this thing is a couple of grand, it'll most likely be out of most consumer's price range and be geared for corporate uses and millionaires . Very nice specs nonetheless.

Strap a Cannon to the top and tracks to the side and you got yourself a tank :O

I would expect it will be closer to the $100k mark. Although what will really cost the money will be commisioning your own films so you've actually got something to play on it.
madgamer @ Nov 20th 2007 12:48PM
I think Jim is the only one even close to what this thing will cost. The Sony 4k projector is well over $100k and I would expect this one to be a similar price. It's for movie theaters, not home theaters.

my home theater is a movie theater! dangit.

How long 'till the MPAA sues you for having guests over to your house with one of these?
