Final Optimus Maximus box design revealed
Well, it looks like Art Lebedev's slow drip of information about its Optimus Maximus keyboard even extends to the product's packaging, as it now turns out that last box we saw wasn't the final version -- the one above is, supposedly. Not that it likely make a bit of difference to the select few actually able to get their hands on one, that is.

I still really, really want one, regardless of price. Come on winning lottery ticket!
In other really important news, I just took a piss.
Indeed.
Guys, it's a box.
I wonder how much the box will sell for on Ebay.
That's pretty important news, no kidney stones today folks!
I'm pretty sure I'm more excited about your news than a 1500 dollar keyobard's box design.
With 65,536 colors, one would think the 6 and 3 could vary a bit more.
Engadget, here- for future use:
news·wor·thy [nooz-wur-thee]

of sufficient interest to the public or a special audience to warrant press attention or coverage
So, uh, what's the point of the rubik's cube?
Engadget was doubting this thing from the begining and now that its a reality they just got owned and are still a little too proud of themselves. I think an apology is due.
Why?
Price please.
it was announced that it would cost $1500 bucks with all the keys on it. Now that the dollar has fallen, I'm sure it will cost more.
I remember hearing that the base with normal keys (not OLED ones) was going to be like $200 bucks. Then you can purchase the keys one-by-one to get the whole keyboard.
I'd personally just put it on my CC if I could get confirmation on the existance of Linux drivers. Works for MacOS, but not Linux. Oy.
Yeah, I wouldn't touch it without Linux drivers either.
...or if they were feeling really awesome they'd release full soft specs (ATi) or make drivers for Linux, BSD /and/ OpenSolaris (nVidia). Right now, they're basically pulling a.. what do you call it? (Apple/Adobe/Microsoft)
Coming from a product development background I'll say waving a prototype around is still a long way from production. Its easy to make one of something, making 1000s of them is an entirely different matter. Its looking promising, but its not out of the woods yet and Engadget is still far from owned.
Did the company pay engadget to put up these articles?
No one cares about them until it's 200 dollars
All I see these days are Optimus Maximus news and Eee Pc lol
exactly! If it was engadget's choice, they woudn't put up a boring article about a keyboard for the rich. Engadget reports on interesting and sometimes poitnless but funny news.
It's Thanksgiving... give Engadget a break. It's a slow news day.
I think engadget does a fine job with the content. Every camp issues a fairly good number of 'all I see here is ____' complaints, so I'd call it about fair.
That said, I'm a little confused on the software. Did they finally make it so people could edit and remove their posts, or was that article I saw a while ago some OpenID login thing?
...cause every day I think 'If there's one thing engadget needs to fix (other than kind of writing off the interests of my particular OS faction when it comes to new hardware reviews ;), it's adding support for post edits.
...I think it'd be awesome to have an article on the market share of various browsers and Operating Systems on engadget, compared to, say Google or something. I really think that would be fascinating. Checking my useragent... ok, it's not a spoofed googlebot. begin.
I was on the fence with this product but now I'm sold! The box is amazing!
The only news I really want to hear about this thing is that they figured out a way to keep it under $300. It is a great concept and all but I would be much more impressed on a company that was figuring out a way to lower the costs of production that would make things like this reasonable.
I'll wait for the brown-box OEM version...
Boxes are flammable
filed under 'the cons of proprietary software'
...your clothes are probably flammable too. Perhaps that's why you came into this world without them. There's a reason for everything!
I have a couple questions.
Is Engadget a marketting arem of these companys. its a box!
Do these companays simply use companys like Engadget for free marketting. First its "we have created something" and all the hype with it. then its Look we have created a box, then the hype. then its we have a price to go with the box and the hype behind that.
can some tell me when a chinese or japanese company makes a cheep knock-off of this.
Congratulations! You're a qwerty user!
You'd think if you were looking at your fingers as much as most of you guys do, you'd want something prettier under them...
That said, there are a lot of people who do commit qwerty to memory...
...and learning a new layout well does take a month...
I guess what I mean to say is 'I do.' ~ colemak typist for 6 months
How come no one is yelling for an Optimus Maximus Mouse? I want to program the buttons but want visual feedback as to what the hell I programmed them for and I refuse to pay more than $900 for this.
Reality check here....it's a keyboard...you're going to have to replace it in a year because you get cheetoh (sp)crumbs inside and oh yea you masturbate dangerously close to it.
How much is it going to be?
