Hush Technologies' HS1 Home Server now available
Don't get down on yourself if you can't remember the last time you saw anything interesting from Hush Technologies -- we had to scour the archives ourselves -- but the German firm is storming back with a stylish home server dubbed the HS1. The Windows Home Server-powered device features a sexy aluminum chassis (available in three colors), a fanless design, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, an Ethernet jack, HDD kit for a pair of 3.5-inch drives and a 90-watt power supply. Interested consumers can customize the unit with up to 2TB of storage space and a gigabit Ethernet upgrade, but considering that the base configuration will run you €923.53 ($1,362), maxing this bad boy out won't come cheap.

Stylish indeed. Very minimal.

Stop me if you've heard this one before:
"I'm not paying that kind of money for something that I will purposely try to hide away from sight and hearing range."

It's not much for storage potential. I'd expect a server to be able to hold four drives before going external. There are some NAS devices that include four drives, for less.

Nice style of this thing, but the prize is just not reachable .. ::/

my desktop can hold 6 hard drives (antec p180) 10 if you use the 3.5" drives...They need to sell these home servers with more hard drive upgradability. 2-4 hard drives is NOT enough especially when you want to use multiple arrays of raid 5 with an extra redundent drive in each array.

Just get a apple x-server :-)

It's not just the looks - Hush's stuff is usually either completely fanless and therefore almost silent, or with minimal fans. That's the other reason for the price premium.

Yes it's expensive, but if you want a silent home server in your A/V room I don't think anyone is offering anything cheaper. This is aimed at the A/V enthusiasts crowd. These are types that wouldn't bat an eye at spending $20K+ on a home theater. Personally I'm cool with my $500 homebuilt HTPC and $99 HD DVD player.

Hush makes some of the nicest HTPC devices possible... I wouldn't get the home server one though, I would have the big HP home server somewhere else like a garage, and then use a hush HTPC in the media room like it's meant for.
They build SILENT core 2 duo systems, yes, you can get a core 2 with SSD that has no fans at all, and no hdd noise at all. Quieter than a quiet DVR box.

Nice, but the price is a bit steep!

I have to agree with Ugli, here. I Windows home server in rackmount form. How many have a rack system, say, in their family or living room? Instead, the usually would tuck the home server away somewhere out of sight and sound. Thus, the need for quiet and slim design seems out of place.
Also, why would someone spend $1300 or more for a 1GB based server? I can buy good 2GB packages for $50. Sounds like this is more for the "more money than brains' candidates.

another beautiful design from Hush, as usual. I love these guys...
