Valeswood's Pearl: the hydrogen powered bike
Listen -- we know you want to do your part for the environment, but you don't have to wear jean shorts while doing it. By all means, take a gander at the Valeswood Pearl hydrogen-fueled, power-assisted bicycle, which motors up to 15 MPH and takes you about 80 miles before you need to juice the batteries. When you're finished with all the hard labor of pedaling, the bike folds up neatly and can be tucked away in the trunk of your 9 MPG SUV. If you're the eco-centric cat or kitten that we think you are, you're not going to be too miffed about that $4000 price tag, and we're sure the only kind of short you'll be rocking will be of the organic hemp variety. We wish we could say the same for the chap in the photo.

yeah i guess its good for the environment, but how about helping yourself out by pedaling the bike? this is why America is so fat!

One word: GAY!
kev @ Nov 23rd 2007 9:06PM
They have it for older people in Japan, but they use batteries and are recharged by plugging them into outlets. It's useful in hilly areas, especially if it's a normal bike.
Bweetza @ Nov 23rd 2007 4:36PM
'You know how I know you're gay?'...
I'm not sure if it's the guy in the pic or the basket that just nails it.

is it me or his pants color do not match with the bycycle?
jodamiller @ Nov 23rd 2007 4:41PM
I don't think they're jean shorts, just blue (never seen jean shorts with a stripe like that). However, they do badly clash with the blue in his shirt.

They were *this* close to making mopeds cool again...
Astralplaydoh @ Nov 23rd 2007 4:42PM
That is one expensive bicycle.
Matt H. @ Nov 23rd 2007 5:54PM
$4000?! Does anyone else think this makes any sense?
This summer I bought a new Honda CBR125 street bike for a $4200... this included all the apparel and taxes... and it gets me over 90mpg at 85mph.
McGinley @ Nov 24th 2007 3:54PM
I prefer the cheaper leg powered alternative.
JC @ Nov 23rd 2007 4:50PM
Will riding this bike cause me to wear short shorts and have pasty white legs? 'Cause if so, no thanks.
drorez @ Nov 23rd 2007 4:57PM
Nice shorts dude! Bike on...
Osiris @ Nov 23rd 2007 5:00PM

Lobsang @ Nov 23rd 2007 5:06PM
HAHA
JJBravesFan @ Nov 23rd 2007 5:09PM
and a crappy green at that!
stitifier @ Nov 23rd 2007 5:11PM
Any dignity this bike could have had went right out when they stuck on a FRIGGING BASKET.
niranjan.bendre @ Nov 23rd 2007 5:14PM
neat...
Matt E. @ Nov 23rd 2007 5:18PM
There's nothing cool about that pic to compel me to get one. The guy looks strange, kinda like a gay Capt. Morgan. The bike design is totally fugly. And its green. And the basket is a real nice touch!
John @ Nov 23rd 2007 5:22PM
What's the point of taking something you fuel by eating and making it fueled by hydrogen?
Mumster @ Nov 23rd 2007 5:31PM
i would much rather pedal at 10 mph on my bike that cost only $250 compared to this
Vinnay @ Nov 23rd 2007 5:36PM
lame
mcdizzle895 @ Nov 23rd 2007 5:49PM
we'll all be wearing shorts like that in the next two years...
kojo87 @ Nov 23rd 2007 11:51PM
i cant tell if thats a statement on fashion or global warming...either way makes perfect sense.
Maff @ Nov 23rd 2007 5:52PM
that guy looks ACE!
BatteryAcid @ Nov 23rd 2007 6:24PM
Gay! The bike looks like a good idea though.

Hany Hanna @ Nov 23rd 2007 6:37PM
Throw in some plastic streamers hanging from the handlebar grips and an ace of spades clothespinned to the front wheel spokes and I'm totally in.
Dave @ Nov 23rd 2007 6:43PM
homophobe much, people?
Mark Richardson @ Nov 23rd 2007 7:06PM
Not liking homosexuality doesn't make a person homophobic. Being *afraid* of homosexuality makes a person homophobic.
Brandon h @ Nov 24th 2007 2:34AM
And being a douchbag is priceless.
Grow the F#*$ up ignorant bigot.
Mark Richardson @ Nov 29th 2007 8:51AM
@Brandon h
I'm not a bigot. Get a dictionary.
Funny how my post is "Highest Ranked". I guess the rest of Engadget's readers are just a bunch of homophobic bigots too.
Dave @ Nov 29th 2007 10:34AM
Hitler was also highly ranked... asshat.
Mark Richardson @ Nov 23rd 2007 7:04PM
"before you need to juice the batteries"
I don't think this thing runs on batteries.
xccv @ Nov 27th 2007 2:27PM
Even though they say it's fueled by hydrogen, I'm very certain it runs on hydrogen batteries.
glad @ Nov 23rd 2007 7:13PM

Joe B 1 @ Nov 23rd 2007 8:51PM
I don't think he's going very far with those flat tires
tealfixie @ Nov 23rd 2007 9:01PM
put this sucker on a mountain bike and make it look manly
Dan @ Nov 23rd 2007 9:36PM
The price has to, and will, come down. Front and rear suspension would be nice. Isn't there something missing? Where's the hydrogen separator-accumulator? As far as I can tell, they're just setting us up for the hydrogen cartel. Somebody has to offer us a solar (etc) powered hydrogen generator.
charles lowe @ Nov 23rd 2007 10:21PM
