Verbatim offers up color-background LightScribe DVD±Rs
We're beginning to think that this is some type of holiday tradition for Verbatim, as nearly a year after the firm waved color-background CD-Rs in our faces, now we've got vivid DVD±Rs to tempt us, too. As expected, these new 4.7GB discs are fully compatible with all LightScribe-enabled drives, and they're currently shipping in packs of 25 for around $25. Yeah, it's costly, but it's hard to put a price on the joy you'll receive when finding yellow, blue, red, orange and green discs within your next spindle.

Let us know when they unveil the disks that will simulate color printing by varying the laser intensity on the disk face material, and not just disks with a background color.
This advance in technology is definitely noteworthy of a mention on Engadget. Let the cancer-curing begin.
Oh yeah? Where TF are my Double-Layered Lightscribe DVDs!? Grrrr... Damn Cartel!
Please 25 for 25$ I get 50 for 8 bucks at Microcenter
Nice. Me wants Lightscvribe for my external LaCie Burner. Now to make some movies worthy of burning.
Nice... I only use my Lightscribe disks for special occasions, so I might splash out on some. Didnt even know they had released colour CD's...
Colour CD's??? Really, who cares! Not to mention $25 for a package of 25???? 1) Anyone who is exited about this needs to enjoy life, or get a life. 2)Vebatim should send their marketing team along with product and development back to the "drawing board" and come up with something that will bring a real "wow" to the industry. Meanwhile, maybe I'll get a Christmas gift from some well intentioned loved one that is stored on a COLOURED CD!!! Happy Holidays
Anyone who judges someone based on what gets them excited or what purchases they make has their own character flaws to worry about.
Anyone who judges someone on the way they judge others should judge themselves more judiciously.... ;o)
1) They are colored DVD's, not CD's.
2) They are light-scribe, which is typically only available in a goldish color.
3) It's marketing. If your Mom is buying a gift for you, they'll probably go for the colorful ones over the dull regular light-scribe's because hey, they look pretty... at least that might be the reasoning behind someone who doesn't know the technicalities of it.
We use lightscribe labeling in our business. Where's the SILVER color??! I don't care about blue or orange or gold or pink. I want plain old SILVER background!
