Engadget's Holiday Gift Guide, 2007!

Here's how we do our thing: the HGG is actually a series of smaller guides broken down first by whom you'll be buying gifts, and then by price range. (Today we're starting with him, easily the most discerning gadget giftee; in a few days we'll go to her, then son, daughter, dad, mom, and so on.) We'll publish a new guide every few days through Christmas, so you'll have plenty of time to shop around online and in stores, and we do suggest you check out all the guides -- especially since you never know when you'll find something you want for yourself.
Enjoy, and happy holidays!
P.S. -It kind of goes without saying, but shopping online can produce pretty wild fluctuations in price, so know that many listed prices can be approximations.
P.P.S. -If you have any hot suggestions we may have missed, please don't hesitate to let us know in the comments!

perhaps add not so much as another Gift Guide, but an additional Retail guide? something that would help people find the best retailer that would have the best consistent "deals" on gadgets?
ehh.. it might be hard to do though..
CUBSWILLWIN @ Nov 24th 2007 6:26PM

No no, its Christmas Gift Guide.
Damn politically correct bastards. Merry Christmas!
CraigJ @ Nov 24th 2007 7:30PM
Sponsored by Verizon, so we know we won't be seeing the iPhone in there anywhere...
Ryan Block @ Nov 24th 2007 7:36PM
Not that it needs explaining, but advertising has nothing to do with editorial. We've already written up non-Verizon phones for the "for him" guide, for example.
iamdigitalman @ Nov 24th 2007 8:25PM
OK, Ryan, but we still don't like it. Get rid of it please, then I will read your 'Holiday' guide. Until you do, I will be blocking it, as well as every other ad on this page. Find some other way to get paid.
CUBSWILLWIN @ Nov 24th 2007 8:33PM
Not very nice man. What of there is no other way of getting some money. Besides don't you want to see the best tech blog of the century to bring more features and events and items for contests. Engadget, maybe you should call for a fundraiser. It's a pretty good idea
kevinm @ Nov 24th 2007 9:34PM
People will get the wrong idea. There was a Sony sponsored review of Mario Galaxy that just bashed the game and gave it a really low score while everyone else gave it a perfect score.
But you guys do need the ad money, just put in an disclaimer.
CraigJ @ Nov 24th 2007 9:35PM
Sorry, I should have maybe indicated that I was being sarcastic? I understand that you guys make all your money from advertising, and I never blocked your ads until you had that gargantuan Apple Flash ad which killed my browser. You killed it and I unblocked. But seriously, I do think the iPhone should be on your list. It's not perfect, and there are things I wish it did that it doesn't, but all in all the experience of using it vs. other smart phones I've had makes it a must have IMHO. Happy Whatever!
CUBSWILLWIN @ Nov 24th 2007 7:54PM
never knew the cheif editor of engadget had to 'test'...Strange
CUBSWILLWIN @ Nov 24th 2007 8:33PM

I have been very good this year :o)
Joshua McCall @ Nov 25th 2007 9:00PM
Can I have one even if I've been naughty?
Jacob Kennedy @ Nov 27th 2007 1:06PM
Can someone link to the actual guide? This post is the one in the "Featured Stories" section... not very helpful.
Jacob Kennedy @ Nov 27th 2007 1:07PM
Oops. I see that it's in the "Relevant Posts." Still... not 100% intuitive.
Fred Anderson @ Nov 28th 2007 8:34AM
I really think you should add the My-Bands selection to your list. It's value in protecting lives is obvious, and at $30 retail it's the most affordable on your list. WWW.My-Bandsonline.com. Revelutionizing the way we protect ourselves.

I found the greatest company. They make everything in the US, so I decided to go green and get just about all my gifts from them. I got about 95% percent of my gifts this year from Waterfield Designs (sfbags.com)
Everyone with an iphone is getting one of these: http://www.sfbags.com/products/iphonesmartcase/iphonesmartcase.htm and one of these: iPhone Suede Jacket (can't post the url)
My girlfriend is getting this for her laptop: http://www.sfbags.com/products/cozmo/cozmo.htm (pretty sweet, eh?!)
My brother is getting this for his DS Lite: http://www.sfbags.com/products/nintendo-ds/nintendods.htm
My parents are getting this for their Canon camera: Pic Pocket camera case.
I bought a few of their iPhone Suede Jackets (only $9!!) in case any friends show up with gifts that I wasn't expecting.
The best part of the experience is that they treated me like a king! I can't remember the last time (before this) that I actually talked to someone really helpful and just plain *friendly* when I purchased something on line. I've been recommending sfbags to everyone I know now.
