Sony unveils two new large-venue HD projectors, the VPL-FW300L and VPL-FH300L
Sony dropped two new large-venue projectors today, the 7000-lumen VPL-FW300L and the 6000-lumen VPL-FH300L. Designed for larger applications like ballrooms, museums, large classrooms, event centers, and movie theaters, the FW300L sports a 1366 x 800 resolution while the FH300L goes up to 2048 x 1080. Both units are housed in the same round chassis that maximizes airflow while keeping fan noise down, and feature dual 275W lamps for both redundancy and reduced energy consumption. Sony says the target application for both models is pre-show advertising before movies in movie theaters, but we're certain a least a couple of you are getting ready to drop the $27K (FW300L) or $40K (FH300L) to deck out your home theater.

Powerful...Sexy...Expensive...The Sony way
Nice, I like it :)
Would love to play Unreal Tournament 3 on that baby :)

Wow...What was wrong with square or rectangular projectors? Is round the new form factor of choice for Sony?

You know, reading isn't really a fine art:
"Both units are housed in the same round chassis that maximizes airflow while keeping fan noise down."

I read that...I just thought it was odd, particularly for a "pro" unit. There are plenty of other projectors out there with good airflow and low noise.
Maybe it's just personal preference but I like professional gear to have nice clean (square) lines.
Several pieces of rack mounted equipment have broken away from this form and it makes for a very odd looking equipment rack when you have rounded faceplates sticking out.

Are there any dual use beamers? This one looks as if I could use it as ordinary lamp as well, if the lower side would be transparent.
How about triple use, adding a ventilator_

Why would you want to use a $1000 light bulb as a lamp?

Because a 60-watt incandescent just doesn't feel warm enough on the top of your head?

I think Sony does offer a down lighting option on this, but it comes in the same package as the ceiling fan attachment -- so heat isn't a problem.
