So we can't really delve into a lot of specifics, but today Microsoft showed off the next version of Windows Mobile at their annual Mobius conference. Nope, it's not Windows Mobile 7 /
Photon, but what we saw "is an update, not an upgrade", was running on current hardware, and is due to manufacturers Q108. Our first impressions: very slick, and has a lot of features that just about any WinMo user will agree is way overdue. In other words, we're expecting users will be stoked -- no doubt about it. Expect specific details on features and the like in the near future, we wouldn't be surprised to hear more about it CES.
And a prototype of Silverlight on Windows Mobile here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LA3LlpClFko
Im sure its not that ryan isnt dying to give us the info of this 'update'... microsoft mustve made him sign one of those disclosure docs... he is right in something is better then nothing... and im also certain xda would *hopefully* have the update soon... we should be thankful that we were given something and not bitch so much about it... ppl who we should bitch at is microsoft for not releasing some pics/vids to the rest of us non press folks
Guess we'll see this update on current phones sometime in Q3 2008. Normally it takes the carriers months to test it, and if we are talking about AT&T - years.
Some of us are still waiting for the WM6 update to our WM5 devices.
Upgrade, update............who cares. Just as long as they can get the freakin reminders to fire off. Running WM6 on my 6700 and it works fine except WiFi doesn't work after the ROM upgrade. Anyone elese have the same thing?
"behind closed doors..." ... and "when nobody is looking?" ?
Now seriously... this kind of reporting reminds me of the "Windows 4.0 pics are here" headlines shown in the covers of magazines by mid-1993, when win95 wouldn't arrive until mid-95
If you wanna step your WinMo game up go to xda-developers.com. You can get a custom rom for just about any htc device. Check out what the chefs are doing in the xda-dev community. Read the wiki/forum so you don't have to comment in ignorance. And, if you're too much of a sally to flash your phone at least check out all of the cool and FREE apps for WinMo...Oh and contrary to what some my believe I actually like and appreciate apple and the iphone because its making all the competition step their game up.
Does Win Mobile still eat up all its memory until you close applications somewhere deep in the settings menu?
I'd rather wait for Android devices to show up.
Actually it is very easy just to get a task manager, so you can configure the close button to do whatever you want, i think you can even do that in windows, but it is so much easer just to get a task manger i have forgotten.
It's that bad?
Thanks for the update on the 'update' to WinMo6.
In the meantime, still waiting for the release of the OLD WinMo6 on my Blackjack. sign....
Finally a new OS! Well, I still like WM6.0 very much though.
Clearly people are wondering if this is going to be an iPhone killer... Can windows just find some sort of way to let us use an awesome version of windows mobile, side by side with the current software it has, perhaps? I'm a huge fan of my iPhone, but i want some software for it, and if apple isnt forthcoming with some new applications, I'd find no problem reverting back to windows... Windows doesnt b*tch and moan about being hacked either.
Can it compete S60(touch or 3rd) ? specially as a "Phone" ?
