CAD fans, prepare to get stoked. Objet Geometries -- a "world leader" in photopolymer jetting -- has announced that it will debut a system capable of producing 3D parts and assemblies made from different materials in a single build. The device, known as the Connex500, utilizes the company's "PolyJet Matrix," which can create 21 composite materials and seven separate model materials. "The Connex500 opens a new chapter for the 3-D printing and rapid prototyping industry," said Adina Shorr, CEO of Objet. The machine is capable of producing both rigid and flexible material, and can create polypropylene-like surfaces. Honestly, the process the Connex500 uses is pretty complicated stuff, but you really only need to understand one basic fact: you will never again be missing a piece from your chess set. Hit the read link and get all the technical details on your next pricey purchase.

incredible.. the possibilities are endless!

On the job, I have models SLA'd. For prototyping, there's no reason why you'd really require the parts to be made from multiple materials. They are, after all, prototypes. When you go to mold the pieces from actual resin, you'll end up with shrinkages, sinks, and voids that the prototype isn't going to produce initially anyhow.

My father in-laws business is does stuff like this all the time and is actually buying a couple of these same machines. It's crazy stuff!
Anything you can imagine, they can build.

"The machine is capable of producing both rigid and flexible material" - Can we now make "Mission Impossible" style faces already?

Now I can make any accessory for my action figures!!!

But will it make blenders?
Beamey @ Nov 29th 2007 3:48PM
will you blend is the real question?
Matt @ Nov 29th 2007 3:51PM
I will blend, the question is: Will you enjoy your time in jail for blending me.

It says that it can create assemblies. Does that mean that it can make two separate parts released from each other but still assembled? That would be pretty badass. Otherwise if it just created an "assembly" of parts stuck together, that would be pretty lame.

I can't wait to download Lucy Liu from KidNapster.com--with this, I wouldn't even need a blank robot.

Shame it can't do metal. Would save me 1000's on RC heli parts... Mind you bet this costs a fare amount!

With all this technological advancements and all you can think of is having something up your butt. What a waste…

Peter, have you been using the internet at all recently? That's all our technological advancements are good for. It's it's not killing, it's either getting rocks off or getting eaten. Everything else is just fluff humans make for the times when they're full and orgasmed out.

Just imagine going to the local office depot and looking down the printer isle and seeing 21 different materials all boxed up...
Refilling is gonna be a bitch.
Piracy used to be just software and files. Soon we'll be able to download a new hard drive. I can't wait.

You just need to go to the aftermarket generic refill station to reload your cartridges... They're guaranteed to perform like the original!
Nick @ Nov 29th 2007 7:36PM
Technex, for your RC parts, just buy a benchtop CNC mill, most are $2-3K, less if you DIY parts of it, and you can mill any material you wish, within reason (pure nickel is a pain...don't ask me how I know)

I seen a SLA machine build an entire WORKING clock in one shot. One of the materials was wax, which was in all the clearances, and simply melted out after in a low temp oven. viola! I think SLA is the future of production. An entire vehicle SLA'd in the future?!
