Asus' R700 GPS unit hits the FCC
We've known for some time that Asus' R700 GPS unit would be hitting Europe by the end of the year, but it looks like the device could now be nearing a US release as well, as it recently made its all-important debut at the FCC. In case you missed it, this one is a Windows CE 5.0-based device, boasting a 4.3-inch touchscreen, RDS / TMC traffic info, a hands-free Bluetooth kit, a microSD card slot for expansion and, of course, all the basic PMP features you'd expect. Of course, there's still no official word on price or date for the US release, but the European model should be available sometime this month for €400-€500 (or roughly $590 to $740).

Errr is it me or is the photographer of this pic just a douche. If you're going to take a pix of a product along with a tape measure why would you slant the product thereby making it difficult for me to accurately figuring out the size of this thing? I need more coffee.

Silly Alex! All you need to do is take the measurement in tenths, do a photogrammetric perspective correction, apply some simple trig, then convert to inches.
Boom! There you go. I come up with 72.4 miles x 1.3 fluid ounces.

Woah, this actually looks like a pretty nice GPS system - though I luckily picked up the TomTom One 3rd Ed. on black friday for $100 at Staples and am satisfied with it. I don't what would justify a $400 price increase. It gets me from point A to B w/ no issues and I'd never need the PMP features? Help me out here!

It's 5.5ish on the diagonal, so an uneducated guess is somewhere in the neighborhood of 2.5+ inches x 4.5-5 inches thereabouts, as far as I can tell.

You know the question. Jin- you there? This, the Cowon Q5W, or the Archos 605 WiFi and why?
