NES PC up for auction, emulation addicts rejoice
Yeah, the NES PC is old hat, but if you just can't find the time to create one for yourself, why not pay some diligent soul for their hard work rather than living another month without one? Available via eBay, this finely crafted piece of art won't crank through any of the latest PC titles, but it comes with plenty of horsepower (and peripherals) to handle all the emulation you can stand. Granted, Americans will have to fork over additional coinage to have it shipped in from France, but flooring a room full of nerds at your forthcoming holiday bash will most certainly make it worthwhile. Check out the auction along with an in-action video at the read link below.

Any readers here ever built one of these or know of anyone who built one. I'm just really curious about what kind of power supply you'd use.
An online guide would be great for a lazy ass like myself who doesn't want to think about what to put where to much!
I guess everything would obviouisly be mini-itx and laptop parts.

In a nutshell, that's what I used when I put one together.
The Power supply I used was a 60w circuit board with an external brick. I fabbed a couple of brackets from spare plastic cut from the NES case itself. As small as PSUs have gotten, you can probably use a fully internal unit with no problems, but the one I used gave me room to mount a couple of internal fans.
I will get you a link when I am able. It's a busy morning.

This has a pretty complete parts list as well as some pics of the internals. I built it back in '04, but surprisingly in the mini-ITX realm a lot of these are still available. The problem with the NES box as a case I found to be overheating, since plastic is a good insulator and it's hard to get airflow through it. Still a pretty cool little thing to have around though.

Sorry, tried to do an embedded and didn't realize Engadget takes care of the link for you. DOH! Here you go:

This thing is straight BALLER son!!

Cudos on keeping the original controller ports active, most everybody else cuts the plastic out and just adds usb to the front. Way to not take the easy way out!!!
narix @ Dec 4th 2007 9:49AM
damn, its at 615 euros, i think i build my pc in an c64 case and get rich
Christian Martin @ Dec 4th 2007 9:59AM
I made a NES PC a few years ago. I ended up selling it on Ebay for half of what I paid, but it was the most fun I have ever had building a PC and it went to a gentleman who appreciated the craftsmanship. I converted the controller ports to PS/2 rather than USB, though.
Brings back memories. I think it may be time to pick up the Dremel again...

WTF!!!
I created that months ago and had it on ebay!!! But engadget wouldn't add it to the site so people could see it! I still have it up on ebay if anyone wants to check it out:

up up down down left right left right b a select start.
Joshua Walters @ Dec 4th 2007 1:12PM
Wow, thats an awesome idea for a case. If I didnt think gutting my NES would kill me from the inside out, I would totally do that.
Heck, I might have to pick up an old one just for that purpose (ok, they are all old, so another one)
knightlightning @ Dec 4th 2007 1:38PM
I love the translated link:
"The interest is obvious: you can play any play without having to use the old women defective, cumbersome cartridges and increasingly rare to find."

I love this question

Didn't I already cover this?
ebay nostalia-hound sales bonanza procedure:
1. Find old toy at garage sale.
2. Find newer, smaller toy at garage sale.
3. Glue newer toy into older toy.
4. Enjoy profit as fanboys of one or the other toy stumble over each other to purchase this ridiculous amalgam from you.
As I said earlier, this is a trend that will never stop. There will always be bigger, older toys in which to wedge smaller, newer toys. Fifteen years from now it will be an XBox 3600 inside a Pokeball.
