Myvu Solo's silicon secrets revealed
Ever wonder what's behind those Myvu Solo goggles besides LeVar Burton? Good, because EE Times took a X-acto and splayed the $199 video headset wide. Of interest are those tiny left and right-eye microdisplays with 320 x 240 pixel transmissive color LCDs from Kopin Corp out of wicked Westboro, Mass. Also notable is the weight -- 118-grams -- of which, a good portion is from the cables. Plenty of lewd, techno-gore just beyond the read link. You know, if you can pull yourself away from your ohmmeter long enough.

Don't worry everyone, I'm sure the "Lemar" is a play on the author's own name being one letter off of a different STTNG character.

Who buys these? I really can't see a big - okay any - market for super low resolution Geordi visors that don't do anything cool like the nickname would imply.
I'm just puzzled at how many of these have been shown on Engadget, I would have thought one company could have easily covered the entire demand for them.

Well, some people commute and would like to watch videos from their phone/ipod/etc. on a bigger more comfortable and private screen. At the price they ask for this, there's plenty or reason for some people to get this device. While I would like a higher res one for other uses, you have to remember that other companies charge more than $500 for the same resolution and those that make headsets with 720p are hovering in between $1000 and $2000. Heck, if you need high def that much and got the money, might as well just buy a tv so other members of family can enjoy the well spent money.

It's coming along. I wonder at what point it becomes practical. Is it at 640 by 480, or at 1600 by 1200. Besides the head tracking has to become fast as well. Its getting there, we are very close, and these are good efforts in this regard. Just have to wait and see...

Has anyone used these! The fact that the resolution is low makes little difference as the resolution coming of my ipod is low. I just love them when I'm on the train, or on a plane.. or any bus trip.. I can watch what I want! I don't bother anyone.. and I don't care what it looks like while I'm wearing them.. the dude that's picking his nose, or drooling while sleep looks far worse!
