Palm offers up unlocked Treo 750 with Windows Mobile 6
If you loathe the carrier branding, or would just like to go gallivanting around the world with zero strings attached, Palm's now selling its co-flagship Treo 750 with Windows Mobile 6 direct and unlocked for $549. The GSM world phone can of course do the 3G thing in the US and Europe, so it's ideal the jet set type willing to deal with the Treo bulk, but other than the unlock it's the same old Treo, so we're sure you've already decided whether this one's right for you. The phone is available at Palm's online and retail stores.[Via MobileBurn]

AT&T/Palm FINALLY released the windows mobile 6.0 upgrade for current Treo owners yesterday. Just about 8 months late. It can be found here:

I still think the treo 650 with the palm os was the best phone... EVER

I agree, except the phone part of course. All I ever heard on that thing was "what? I didn't get that last part" If it had good reception I would still use it.

My dad has one, and loves it. But sometimes I can't hear him. Oddly-placed mic is what I've found.
bjrcboy @ Dec 5th 2007 12:22PM
True the mic wasnt the best but if you use.. i forgot which program. It boosts the speaker and microphone so its actually pretty clear. All they would need to do is launch a revamped model (with the original button placements!!!! hated the 680 for that reason) and I think it would sell like hot cakes.

650 is great, but I didn't like the chrome. Or the ear-bubble. Only other thing is that it could be thinner and have 3g, then I'd never stop using it.

Steve Ballmer "$500, for a phone!"
No thanks Palm. I'm not into collecting old tech.
Richard John @ Dec 6th 2007 12:58AM
$500 for a phone WITH A CONTRACT. This is sim free.
kjb434 @ Dec 5th 2007 10:50AM
And think, unlocked Treo's used to be in the $800 ranger or higher. This low price point is great for Treo's fans. I'm currently partial to the ATT Tilt. It's a great device for WM6.

Anyone know if the 700wx on Verizon will get the Windows 6 update?
Mark Richardson @ Dec 5th 2007 11:06AM
No.
Joshieboy @ Dec 5th 2007 6:13PM
No you do not know? Or no it wont happen?
zebcarlson2007 @ Dec 5th 2007 11:22AM
Why would you pay that much for an unlocked phone when their usually (i dont know particulars on this phone) not hard to unlock yourself.
dirtysean @ Dec 5th 2007 11:28AM
http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/treo750update/att_install.html DOES NOT WORK. The Palm support site does not recognize Treo 750 Serial #'s, and it has been so since the update was released. If anybody has different info, please post it here.

I did mine yesterday, using www.palm.com/750updateatt . The serial number can be found in Start > Settings > System > About > Phone. The Serial number is NOT the IMEI. I was also getting a script error when trying to run the PC version of the update, but the MiniSD version worked fine.

I think that it's clear that Palm used to beat-up engadget in high-school.
Naveed @ Dec 5th 2007 2:33PM
wish htc would do this so we could get features back on our crippled verizon phones
freakmarket @ Dec 6th 2007 10:05AM
Treos are crap ... if i am paying that kind of money i should get a full size screen.
My 750 always lost track of it's MiniSD card and the tiny screen was SO aggrivating.
