USB Moody Ball apes Ambient Orb, soothes your soul
Connectland's USB Moody Ball may look awfully soothing, yet awfully familiar at first glance. If so, you're probably conjuring up memories of the Ambient Orb, which this device no doubt takes more than a few design cues from. Nevertheless, this USB-powered soul soother automatically changes hues to ease your mind, is constructed from "bump-resistant" materials and weighs in at 179-grams. Best of all, this one's just $20, but convincing your boss to leave the office lights dim just so your Moody Ball can have a greater effect will be the real challenge.

What the hell is this thing USB powered for? Does it serve any function on your computer? Does it play music? Can the orb double as a spherical display for the ultimate fortune-telling experience? Or is USB-powered the latest cop-out for "I don't feel like manufacturing wall-outlet adapters"? OHHHH a color changing orb, big freakin deal. It's worth 3 dollars from Spencers gifts.

When your toddler sticks a paper clip in a USB port and puts himself in a coma, come back here and tell me USB's not a good way to power things.
AC only goes so far for safety. I doubt your kid can request a voltage with common household items using the USB protocol. Furthermore, being USB saves it from converting down form 120volts, by using your PC's switching PSU to do that for it. It's a good idea.
When I design a house, every outlet will include USB ports or something very similar.

If your child doesn't have enough sense to keep metallic objects out of electrical outlets, God help him. I feel no sorrow for people who lose children to idiocy. Whatever happened to "the kid who swallows too many marbles doesn't live to make kids of his own"? Call it cynical and cold-hearted, I'll call it passive eugenics.
Guess what was invented back in the 1970's? Plastic outlet covers. I suggest you invest in them. Or if you want a free solution, tell your kid that electricity and their hands don't mix.

Why waste usb ports on that, if you can get an awesome usb dog tag pendant, instead.
Olinari USB dogtag pendants. They have a sale going on now.

The question is: is there a way to control the color-changing so that you can use it to see if the build is broken?
