Intel to release dual-core Celerons on January 20th?
If the rumor mill is to be believed, Intel's about to have a pretty busy January -- first delivering Penryn on the sixth, and then shipping the first dual-core Celeron processors alongside those long-rumored Yorkfield and Wolfdale chips on the 20th, according to Digitimes. The new Celeron E1000 will apparently run at 1.2GHz and sit on an 800MHz bus with 512K of cache. The report also lays out specs on the 45nm Yorkfield and Wolfdale chips that are pretty similar to what we'd already heard: quad-core QX9000-series Yorkfields at from 2.5 to 2.83GHZ, and Core 2 Duo E8000-series Wolfdales from 2.66 to 3.16GHz. Hmm, the 20th seems pretty close to a certain keynote, doesn't it?[Via TG Daily]

Pie tastes good.
I agree! Truer words were never written. Pie is great! I love pie! Long live pie!
Celery Pie.
btw where's the register button?
Pie is over rated, cake is better.
It's too bad that the cake is a lie
May I be the first to say "WTF?" Since the introduction of the crappy Celeron, I've known people who made the mistake of ordering on, and have been appalled at the Celeron's lack of speed.
A reasonable person would be hoping for the death of Celeron; but no, Intel is perpetuating the Celeron with a Dual Core version. Why?
pie > intel
You're thinking of the older Celerons. The current Celerons are as fast as Core 2 Duo's, except having half the L2 cache, single core, and no SpeedStep. They are otherwise identical in performance.
Pentium Dual Core, on the other hand, are slower than Celerons, but are dual core. So it's about time to upgrade the Celerons.
I'm glad to have an Athlon and have got most people in my immediate family to get one. The 50 or so you save plus the fact that it runs cooler helps :D
Are these new Celerons 45nm?
Probably. Aren't Celerons just chips that Intel deliberately cripple and hold back? Mean of them...
"Aren't Celerons just chips that Intel deliberately cripple and hold back?"
No they don't deliberately cripple them. They are the bunch of chips that have failed production and have their features scaled back in order to remain functional.
Historically, most "Celerons" (just a marketing name, nothing technical defines a celeron) have the same exact chip as the flagship model. The only difference is that some of the L2 cache is artificially disabled. That's right, it all is on the chip, so it probably won't be any cheaper for Intel to make than a normal "Core 2" chip, but they still get at the people who fall below the demand curve at Core 2's higher prices without jeopardizing their other product lines.
Celeron = Marketing gimmick. Unless you are on such a tight budget that you can't spend a few extra bucks on the real thing, there's no reason to give it any attention.
That said, a ton of AMD chips still have only 512KB of L2 Cache on them, so this should give them some competition...
Nobody looks at cache size except us, man.
I've always bought Celly's until I could afford an el cheapo "real" Pentium. I even did the same with the AMD Duron chips. When you're strapped for cash and you have the know-how to overclock(no one does this anymore do they?!!?) the Celeron was hard to beat.
Since I don't use my PC as a gaming platform anymore, low powered, lame CPU's are my first choice. Long live Celery!

?????? I don't think putting 2 crap together really makes a better crap. Isn't the whole point of Celeron to be a cheap processor? If it's duo core, won't that jack up the price? People buying a Celeron obviously would be looking at the price and not the performance. Else they'd be getting something better.
pie > celeron
first you cut your enemy's throat, then slice their heart open bleed to death
dual core celeron is just part of the plan of this murder scheme
I kinda figured it would be phased out as quad cores became more common & left dual core chips as the low end...
Why couldn't intel get everything out 2 weeks earlier for Christmas? Now I have to find time to play all the new pc games after my Christmas vacation. Marry ****ing Christmas Intel. (sighs)
I don't care what you people say about celerons but they are one of the best processors I've used. Right now, I'm typing on a dell dimension b110 from 2005 running on a celeron D. This thing is fast as and f1 racer. One of my favorite processors yet.
Dual-core Celeron? Isn't that kinda like turbocharging a Pinto?
