Maybe we're not Korean enough to catch the appeal, but it seems like somebody is buying these
Disney-branded Mplayers from iriver: the company just released ten new colors for the player in addition to the existing five available. Despite our stodgy form-factor reservations, we've gotta admit that it's a pretty sexy palette. No word on prices or capacities, so we'll just assume they're still sporting 1GB capacities and a $50-ish pricetag. There's another shot after the break.

iriver's a good company, but lately I feel like they are product spamming

rumblerjon @ Dec 8th 2007 1:33AM
NERD!

JYip @ Dec 8th 2007 3:32PM
Nice, didn't even think of H2O though I'm in Chemistry...
Wwhat @ Dec 9th 2007 2:36AM
To me it looks vaguely obscene, not sure why.
Perhaps that's the subconscious driving force of sales.
Wwhat @ Dec 9th 2007 2:38AM
Oh and to make it be a molecule you'd have to use 2 colours really.
You could buy two and exchange the knobs I guess.
Yubastard @ Dec 8th 2007 1:45AM
looks good, man. almost edible... the shape ain't that bad, it sure catches the eye... might be a nice gift for a lady :)
Baluki @ Dec 8th 2007 2:11AM
Looks like a pretty nice gimmicky music player. And at 50 bucks, you can afford to give one to your kids.
I think I'll stick with my H120 though.

Wow, how the hell did this happen, I mean Steve Jobs is the biggest shareholder in Disney, and yet iRiver is making their mp3 players. I would hane expected a video ipod loaded with disney content.

M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E!!
It looks like Mickey Mouse and probably sounds the same way.
BARF.

You often see them selling these on TV in China...
ClieOS @ Dec 8th 2007 4:03AM
A recent survey showed, Mplayer has outsold every other DAP models (iriver + others) in Korea for the past few months, you can't blame iriver for trying to sell even more of them.
tamoghno @ Dec 8th 2007 4:32AM
how much time can we use it , before we break micky's ear ?
slipperywhenwet @ Dec 8th 2007 5:31AM
"Look at me, I'm the mascot of an evil corporation."
I've been living in Korea for a little over a year, and I've seen more of these little Mickey heads on people than anything. It's especially popular among the students of Seoul, but it's not uncommon to see adult women with them. The men generally stick to watching StarCraft matches on their pmps.
Lattyware @ Dec 8th 2007 6:33AM
mPlayer?
Anyone else think http://www.mplayerhq.hu/ when they saw that?
Matt @ Dec 8th 2007 12:23PM
Yeah, that's Mplayer. Now if only we had a portable that could play all the formats Mplayer could.
Natedog @ Dec 8th 2007 2:15PM
My first thought too. Yay open source!
jimmyfinch @ Dec 8th 2007 3:55PM
At first I thought iriver was being clever and using a graphical representation for water.
Wwhat @ Dec 9th 2007 5:49AM
I suddenly realize this is a good excuse to develop round displays.
Wwhat @ Dec 9th 2007 5:56AM
Talking of which, why don't' they develop 'bowl' shaped sensors for cameras, that would mean less fringing and easier lens design, especially if there is little room.
Guess I'll have to wait another 200 years before someone that can do something about it realizes that and starts thinking of a way to do that cheaply, perhaps on substrate that can be deformed after etching or something.
PenaltyKillah @ Dec 14th 2007 1:56PM
Coincidentally... these players are great self-massagers for your back!
But seriously, not even Disney can think of an ill-fitting product that bruises the thighs of children around Korea. Chocolate and pink literally made me want to peel off its 'wrapper' and at the candy! At least SanDisk's Sansa Shaker is so much shakeable, even though it'll leave a premature bulge in your pants.
