Garmin Colorado 300 GPS on the horizon?
We'll start by recommending a little dose of salt before taking this one in, but nevertheless, an interesting photo coupled with a "prototype hands-on report" has got us wondering if Garmin doesn't have a new GPS unit somewhere close to release. Apparently, the device you see above (labeled Colorado 300) relies primarily on the circular scroll wheel for navigating menus, and if we had to guess, it'll likely be marketed towards marine / outdoors customers. Aside from that, all we're told is that it should land sometime this Spring for around $500, but we're not holding our collective breath just yet.

I don't understand the type of person that pretends to be an insider about these things. It's a blog, does it really make you feel "cool" or something to pretend?

just wait till it comes out and then see what you say. besides why would some one risk their job for letting a blog know something... its called wait till the cats out of the bag then talk about it.

Still not seeing the Nuvi 800 series you were predicting back in August. Although I have to admit you were right about the body type and all.

thats ugly.....

Where I live a GPS with only maps only on Colorado would be useless. I do hope that they release a GPS for all 50 states and one for each 10 provinces.

I'll stick with my 60CSx for now, thank you. As CyberGypsy said, it's ugly.

I assume that if it is named Colorado, that there wouldn't be a whole lot of "marine" i.e. water, pond, lake, ocean features. Not a whole lot of water to get lost on in Colorado, maybe more likely need a GPS to find any water!

My Triton is going to have a big touchscreen and cost the same amount...

I hope the display area is really that big. And to be competitive, it has to be a touch screen.
I currently use a 60CSx (hiking), an eTrex Vista HCx (cycling), and nuvi 660 (car). All are outstanding products. I'm really looking forward to an update of the hand-held units.
Now if they could only manage to make the map licenses transferable from one unit to another when I buy new ones!

Why does it have a huge nipple front and center?

Dear Friends,
I own many Garmin GPS and I like them until I Bought this Colorado 300.
I own an III Plus, a 60 CSx, a 498 and a Colorado 300.
I think that Colorado 300 is a Map GPS, that you can do almost nothing using the maps.
For example:
1) I can enter a Waypoint using the map, but I cannot move the waypoint using the map.
2) I cannot enter or edit a Route using the Map. I've to program all the waypoint before I Plan a route. (It’s the worst way I can enter a route, ever).
3) When I chose "view map" in the Route Planner, Colorado shows me the entire route in a 3" display and I cannot zoom or scroll the map to see the route!
These are only 3 examples, but if you try to use Colorado to Plan Routes and manage waypoint, you will see that are so many difficulties and the map is not used at all.
You put a revolutionary interface and made a very pretty GPS, but I think that the software needs to change allot. The only way to insert routes and waypoint in Colorado is using Mapsource, but I cannot carry my notebook on the trail or to the sea.
