Samsung readying YS-MC1 dock for YP-P2?
Chalk this one up as a yet-to-be substantiated rumor, but based on an interesting video clip surfacing on YouTube (we know...), Samsung's YP-P2 could be getting a swank new peripheral. The YS-MC1 cradle would apparently snap onto the bottom of the already svelte P2 and add 802.11g WiFi, an FM transmitter, microSD expansion slot and a built-in mono speaker. 'Course, we realize just how fake the concepts on the video look, but it's not like Samsung hasn't doled out specialized docks for its DAPs in the past. And hey, we're all still wondering what may go along with the multiple waves of firmware updates slated to land next year. Click on through to see the video yourself.[Via DAPReview, thanks KC Kim]

I am on a crappy connection, so I cannot look at the video, but what good does a WiFi add-on do for a PMP if it's not built into the software for the device? Does this thing come with some flashing to add this functionality to the device?
So far, I am going to say this smells fishy.
.....but then again, we all thought the iPod fatty--I mean 3g iPod Nano smelled of fish, too.
(On an aside: Funny how they could make a 3g iPod Nano, but not a 3G iPhone, no? [
For those humorless pedantics, I know, it's a play on words, I understand what 3G means in each case.])

Wifi was the only thing missing from this sleek device. Wireless syncing and wireless headphones, the ultimate wireless pmp. Only thing missing is wireless charging, but i can live without it, for now. Hope this new add-on is true!

Since it already has bluetooth what's with the 'wireless headphones missing' remark?
Jack Storm @ Dec 10th 2007 2:46AM
@Wwhat
I know it already has bluetooth, i never said wireless headphones were missing. i actually have my sony bt headphones paired to my P2 right now.

C'mon, admit it, you just wanted to show off your cool music notes, didn't you?

Did anyone else get dizzy watching that video?

MicroSD? There's enough room on that thing that they can add a full size HCSD slot and get more storage. Plus, it would keep add-on cost down, because full-size is cheaper than micro.

Gratuitous over use of the spinny effect. Head hurting, eyes bleeding...

I don't know. Looks fake to me. The P2 already has an FM transmitter built in, so there is no need for any peripheral device to contain one. If this thing is real, it won't be coming out for at least another 3 months or so. To use the wi-fi, it would need a major firmware upgrade and update plans are already set until January; which include (at least here in Korea) syncing with phone for hands free, an electronic dicitonary function and FM radio recording.

It has an FM radio, not FM transmitter.
And why would it need to be a dock? Just connect it over Bluetooth.

Wifi add-on only needs a browser. 480x272 screen is perfect for that, as the iPod Touch screen is also 480x320 (bigger screen). FM transmitter needed to send music to FM radio in car. SD or HCSD needed to expand memory capacity.
Add these thing to a P2 and you've got a world beater. The iPod Touch doesn't do BlueTooth or FM anything. You of course can add a bluetooth adapter or an FM transmitter, but only one at a time. I don't know of any FM receiver for iPods.
