Winfly offers up HDD-PMP-001 in myriad colors
Winfly's HDD-PMP-001 certainly isn't the new poster child for PMPs, but it's not half bad for a no-name device. Aside from being available in a plethora of colors including gold, black, blue, purple and orange, this unit also sports a 4-inch display, a 20GB hard drive, an FM tuner / recorder, USB 2.0 connectivity and a rechargeable Li-ion to boot. As for file support, you can count on it playing nice with DivX, AVI, VOB, MPEG1/3/4, XviD, MP3, WMA and JPG. Regrettably, there's no mention of a price, but chances are a quick trip through Shanghai would clue you in real quick like.[Via PMPToday]

wow, engadget has had alot of filler DAP stories, nothing good lately.
20GB harddrive?? What is this? year 2002?
As much as I love how this player seems to play any format you throw at it, 20GB just won't cut it in today's PMP market.
Tell that to the iPod touch.
Tell that to me, I have a 700MB audio player (256 + 512) and that is enough for me (more than 200 songs, the quality isn't bad at all)
As for video, I have a 1GB card on my palm (that is, shared with programs, images, documents and a few songs) and I can fit a lot of The Simpson chapters (and some not-so-small video clips) with FULL quality (that is - using all the pixels of the E2's screen and with pretty nice audio)
I've yet to understand why YOU need all those gigs... with a 20GB player, i'd have real-life-soundtrack for some years (with minor updating) and a few movies, that's more than enough for me..
I have an Archos 504 80GB and want a Archos 605 160GB. The 80gb isn't enought for me! I have 4,500 songs at 192kbps each (yes I am an audiophile) that is about 20GB. I also have 65gb of movies, online videos and more! I couldn't live with 768MB.
More power to you if thats all you need--it is a lot cheaper!
Ok, i'll not discuss it anymore, guess I have less content because I have a very exclusive/strange/non-popular taste :-P
BTW, i'm also an audiophile, and Vorbis at 96kbps is more than enough for me (good detail even in songs with a lot of pads playing simultaneously, no quantization noise on voices)
Price is RMB 888 at the World Commerce Center in downtown or about $120.
...I think it's the one mentioned (same 20GB, everything else idk)
downtown Shanghai, that is
It looks like a microwave...
You write "you can count on it playing nicely with . . ." - that is exactly what you cannot do with unproven stuff, as I have learnt the hard way. Software is all important, and some of these cheaper devices are just an invitation to say goodbye to your data.
So, you liked it?
If yes, then you will love this:
1. Grab your father's gun
2. Load it with at least 5 bullets (if its not already loaded)
3. Point it at your right (or left) eye, so that you can see all the action :-)
4. Pull the trigger 5 times rapidly
And something incredible will happen :-D you'll like it, I promise
WTF man? Deleted spammer's message and didn't delete my now nonsense reply to him?
Way to go
There are Chinese DAP/PMP manufacturers doing very interesting things for very reasonable prices and worthy of Engadget's attention...Winfly is definitely not one of them. On the other hand, if the intent is to maintain a steady flow of dismissve, mocking and/or snarky posts, by all means keep casting your net for these also-rans that don't even rate much attention on their home turf.
