Xenics Music Cube speakers disassemble, can't conceal their ugliness
Portable speakers always bring with them a few compromises -- namely, they either aren't very portable or they don't sound very good. Korea's Xenics now looks to have come up with a solution to that first problem, however, with its new Music Cube speakers able to be disassembled in order to take up as little space as possible in your gadget bag. Unfortunately, it seems that you may want to keep 'em in there as often as possible, as the company's choice of designs leaves quite a bit to be desired. There's also the small matter of that other aforementioned problem, as these speakers pack a mere 1W apiece. On the upside, that means they don't need an external power adapter, and we assume they won't set you back too much, although there's still no official word on pricing or availability.

Bill Cosby called...he wants his sweater pattern back from these speakers!
ericisshort @ Dec 12th 2007 5:53PM
this is worse than a cosby sweater. It looks like a design you'd find on a 3 ring binder in the "back to school" section of target.

That choice of pattern is a little sad.

The CEO of Xenics had to do something with all his old wrapping paper, why not make a profit off of it?

Is it worth it to buy paint for these things though? might be more economical to give them to some kid for xmas or something.

I have a couple cans in the garage from previous projects that didn't use up the whole can.
Rob Imig @ Dec 12th 2007 7:57PM
well at least you don't have to wrap it before you put it under the tree
strider_mt2k @ Dec 12th 2007 11:58PM
Looks like they chose the bargain basement speakers instead of the better sounding microdrivers.
511 @ Dec 13th 2007 12:18AM
The speakers having "a mere 1W apiece" has no bearing on how they sound. A speaker driver's sensitivity rating is commonly measured using 1 watt of power @ a 1 meter distance, an average sensitivity rating would be around 88-90 dB. That's equivalent to you pushing your lawnmower around. And you're sitting 3 feet from the speakers.
WATT RATINGS ARE FOR VOLUME LEVELS, NOT SOUND QUALITY.
A better indication that these suck is the fact the enclosure is made out of cardboard and you unfold it, meaning it has no airtight seal, and in effect no enclosure whatsoever to speak of, which is the most important part of proper speaker design.
Stop fucking equating watts with the quality of sound a speaker produces. Or keep buying your 1000 watt home-theater-in-a-boxes. Christ.
Kevin @ Dec 13th 2007 5:12PM
Did you ever think they might have meant "They're only 1 watt, so don't expect a lot of sound from them"?
Relax man, it's not like you're going to spontaneously combust because of a blog.
