Buffalo introduces 32GB SHD-U32GS USB flash drive
Make no mistake about it, there's a couple of 32GB flash drives out there to be found if you look hard enough, but Buffalo reckons one more alternative won't hurt a thing. The capacious SHD-U32GS features USB 2.0 connectivity along with the company's heralded Turbo USB technology, which mysteriously promises up to 16-percent faster transfers than similar drives. Additionally, the unit weighs in at just 20 grams and measures 19- x 14- x 91-millimeters in size, and it can be yours in a matter of days for around ¥33,768 ($302).

Now if they could just get one of these shoved inside a KeyPort I would buy them both!

I'm sorry but at that size with flash it just doesn't seem right it's using USB2, it should have a firewire or even SATA connector.
Too close to becoming a SSD and then not being one is what I'm saying.

480 Mb/s not fast enough for you? I have a 120GB WD Passport and USB2 is fast enough for me. Plus it is really nice to only have one cable for power and data.
Are you going to put a whole new 32GB on it every time you go somewhere?

Another way to say it is "as close to an SSD as you can get without having to upgrade your computer."
My work computer does not have Firewire or eSATA. If it were built to Wwhat's specifications, I couldn't use it. This might not be the SSD that some people want, but it could the be portable storage that others can use.

If it had SATA and all the speed I thin of when I think SATA I would be using it as my OS/Applications drive. 32 GB is more than enough for most people. Dump the data to a platter HD and off you go

True enough, USB has the universality going for it, and the (purely theoretical) 480Mb/s is not as bad as it could be, but you have to agree that the technology can go way faster, in practise firewire which according to specs should be slower than USB2 is way faster due to its DMA system and the generally not always so great implementation of USB2 (do a search on reputable techsites).
So what we need is to invent eSATA2 that has some pins for power? or wait for USB3 to be finalized, but that is a slow process.

If this came with a ATA interface for older notebooks, I'd be all over it.

I think it defeats the purpose of a usb flash drive. People want something small to carry around, to through data on when they need it. That thing is humongous.
I'd rather go for something like this http://olinari.com
It's probably cheaper too.

oh man now i wish i bought an eepc just so i can mod it with this baby.
LimboMan @ Dec 26th 2007 10:27AM
Wow I'd love to mod this internally for my EeePC... if only it didn't cost as much as the entire computer itself! :) Can't wait for the prices on these to drop...
