Pentagon prepping non-lethal "light and sound" weapon
Blissfully unaware that it's up against a generation raised in the sensory madhouses known as techno clubs, the Pentagon is reportedly working on a non-lethal weapon that utilizes light and sound to sicken and disorient targets. Like Homeland Security's "pukelight," the so-called Distributed Sound and Light Array Debilitator being developed by Penn State's Applied Research Laboratory is meant to induce a feeling of nauseousness, in this case combining light patterns with "aversive noises." So yeah, like we said, sounds pretty effective unless you happen to run into a group of insurgents hardened by years of all-night raving and the accompanying neurological damage.

"Just" - If you want to play Tit for Tat, you're the one who started this 'serious' rant with "baa baa baa". I also love how it's the abrasive a-holes who seem like they always get harrased by 'the man' for no reason. By the way, not that I expect a coherent answer, but why by not agreeing with everything you say, I'm not a 'Patroit'? What is your defination of a 'Patroit'?
TEM- Shhh. You're going to ruin it for me. Man, do I have to start paying you off as well?
Petey-FYI, Yes, I do vote. And I also encourage others to make an Informed vote. So to stave off your next wild accusation, no, I'm not a member of a party (I don't believe that the the two party system does us any favors), so no, I don't vote down party lines.
And,heh.. posting on Engadget, 'Civil Discourse'? Heh.
Pikachu did it several years ago.
I've done to much raving and Class A's to be bothered by some noise and a few shiny lights, there nothing compared with some of the stuff I've seen.
Did anyone else hope there was a test page so we could experience the hurl in the privacy of our own home?
I must be mad.
No one caught this?
"Distributed Sound and Light Array Debilitator"
DSaLAD?
Can I making a joke about getting your salad tossed?

"They kill less people than a bullet to the chest. That's got to account for something."
You're definitely right. I think it's important to realize that more people can die (or be in serious pain) due to bullet wounds than tasers or other non lethal weapons.
The only thing I would hope is that whoever is handling the weapon exercises caution, and uses it as a replacement for times only when they would normally have used a gun.
Basically, I don't want cops thinking "Hey, this taser isn't gonna kill anybody, let's just use it on anyone who gets testy with us."
