Intel announces industry's smallest SSD chips
The picture says it all, Intel's going crazy small with its latest SSD chips, but it's certainly not leaving capacity behind. The new Intel Z-P140 PATA SSD chips come in 2GB and 4GB capacities, are extendable up to 16GB, and weigh less than a drop of water. We're already impatient for phone manufacturers and DAP makers to start cramming these into their devices, and the RAID opportunities are really sinful. Intel should be showing the chips off at CES in January, no word on when we'll see 'em hit the market.

I'll take a tablespoonful of those chips. I'm ready for a 64 GB iPod touch.
JohnTitor @ Dec 14th 2007 10:03PM
or maybe just a 60GB Q5W?

Mobius_1 @ Dec 15th 2007 5:30AM
Or a brand-new 128GB Nokia N95 that costs $3000+
kyle @ Dec 14th 2007 10:03PM
what can we compare this to? what is the size of currently available chips?
JAmerican @ Dec 14th 2007 10:08PM
Is it me or does it seem like Intel is all over the dam place these days. They don't stop! OMG
Sam @ Dec 14th 2007 10:12PM
1TB SSD RAID array in a laptop (with one HDD bay!)
Ipaq3115 @ Dec 14th 2007 10:16PM
wow... need to put one of those into...
Everything!!!!
can you imagine how small my laptop would be with one of those. SDHC cards for DVDs (or some other small substitute) and a holographic projector...
Awwww....
Heaven...........
Now where did I put those plans for my time machine....
KC @ Dec 16th 2007 12:23AM
No, the laptop is size is determined by size of the screen, keyboard and battery.
thethirdmoose @ Dec 14th 2007 10:49PM
These seem micro SD sized to me...
Roger Zhang @ Dec 14th 2007 11:10PM
HOLY SMOKES!!! I might wanna hold off my HDD upgrades for a while.
ark_v2 @ Dec 14th 2007 11:56PM
OMG, that's way too small.
Joey Geraci @ Dec 15th 2007 12:04AM
PATA? Why wouldn't they go with SATA??
JuggleNuts @ Dec 15th 2007 12:12AM
Has Intel put Jesus on a chip yet?
Jon Doe @ Dec 15th 2007 1:44AM
Yah its called the Core 2 Duo....Its Jesus in a chip.
Ed @ Dec 15th 2007 12:29AM
People will crush these in their hands trying to install them in their devices.
Jon Doe @ Dec 15th 2007 1:40AM
Ed...and everyone else who is complaining about the size. I know this is a high end concept so focus, but IT WILL BE INTEGRATED INTO THE DAMN DEVICE OR A THUMB DRIVE SIZED DEVICE!...gah....what ever happened to the concept of critical thinking? Is it really that much of a lost art form?
Seriously though this is like complaining that Intel is going to a 32nm process and its too small.
Ed @ Dec 15th 2007 1:43AM
Jon... It was a joke.
Ricardo @ Dec 15th 2007 5:07AM
Does anyone actually know how much a drop of water weighs? Is it a small or a big one?
LondonConsultant @ Dec 15th 2007 5:32AM
Depends if it's heavy water...
chezzo @ Dec 15th 2007 7:04AM
Last time I checked, the definition of a gram was that it's what one millilitre of water weighs...
And no, I don't know what that is in fluid ounces or whatever it is you Americans are using nowadays.
kyle @ Dec 15th 2007 8:46AM
but how many millilitres in a drop?
ssuk @ Dec 15th 2007 10:08AM
kyle... Shouldn't it be "How many drops in a millilitre"?
Billy Fiul @ Dec 15th 2007 6:13AM
Hmmmm, that's odd. I didn't know they made 2007 pennies.
mike @ Dec 15th 2007 4:55PM
The US Mint really needs to shrink down currency to keep pace with Intel...

I'd set up a Raid array like Sam, except in a high-end universal home theater remote, and load it up with all of my movies/media. I'll pitch it as the iCouchPotato
