ITRI showcases a 10.4-inch flexible color LCD
Hot on the heels of that flexible color e-ink display we saw a couple days back, here comes a flexible 10.4-inch LCD display that's less then 10mm thick. The display is being developed by Taiwan's Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), and features two plastic substrate elements instead of a traditional glass one. ITRI says the display can reproduce 57 percent of the NTSC color gamut, but there's no word on when we might ever see these in production.[Via TG Daily]

I sure hope it's a lot less than 10mm thick.

Must be a typo...
1.0mm thick is probably the correct thickness. 10mm, aka 1cm (wow, metric is great!) is nothing special and wouldn't bend like they are showing.

Only TGDaily pulls that 10mm number out of their ass... The only thing DigiTimes bats around as a possible clue to thickness is reporting that it's half as thick as "traditional" Ch-LCD displays. I Googled a reference to an older display that said it was 1.5mm thick -- so it being 1.0mm with a missing decimal point typo is not out of the question.

from the pictures I'd say the thickness gained a zero in translation. While its definitely less than 10mm in thickness it appears to be less than 1mm in thickness as well.

"less then 10mm thick" doesn't sound right. That would be 1 cm, or .39 inches, or about as thick as as a finger.

Could you imagine if you could one day wall paper your house with this stuff. You could kiss the old paint bucket goodbye forever.

"there's no word on when we might ever see these in production" ????
Who writes this stuff. Do you think they did this just for fun? At 57% NTSC, why the hell are they not producing them now? Maybe they messed up on the press release and its actually 10m thick.
Kurtis @ Dec 14th 2007 4:22PM
"Maybe they messed up on the press release and its actually 10m thick."
Wow, that's thick...

That's what she said....

it runs on happiness.

It actually runs on the friction your credit card creates while buying Hello Kitty merch
Mischa Lockton @ Dec 14th 2007 5:29PM
57% gamut? That stinks.
