Canon announcing a new DSLR at PMA?

Ok, we know this might blow your mind, but apparently according to Swedish Canon VP Robert Westin, the camera maker is going to announce a new DSLR next year at that huge photo trade show where they announce new cameras pretty much every year. Sure, it's anyone's guess as to what the DSLR actually is, but if you were thinking of investing in a Canon about now, you'd be wise to wait -- but you probably already knew that because if you're advanced enough to buy a DSLR, we'd bet that you were aware of PMA anyway. Humn... I smell a 5D Mark II with live view, 3 inch display, self cleaning sensor, 41 point auto focus, full frame sensor. Could they bring the 21MP sensor from the Mark III? If they do, it would give the D300 a run for its money.
What? 21MP 5D give a D300 a run for the money? HUH they would be different classes. Plus you'll never see the 1DsIII Sensor in another camera won't happen.
My bad, I forgot. D300 is not even a full frame. But with the lens, it still costs about $2100. 5D currently goes for around $3000. Atleast it will get the D300 customers thinking IF (and this is just my wish) 5D mark II is 21MP
On second thoughts, Rebel Xti is due for upgrade too, so we might just see 2 DSLR being launched
more MP does NOT mean a better camera in the least. If you are running on that argument you are at the tail end of what makes a good camera.
They are not releasing a 21mp body because it is not what is in the best interest of it's target audience, wedding photographers. Increasing the pixel count would have a very negative effect on light sensitivity. A camera with better light sensitivity and color reproduction will out perform a higher pixel count camera. The 5D is not in competition with the D300.

I believe canon will come close to what Nikon is offering as far as low light performance but for less money. I wish Nikon would take this approach and offer a FX almost pro camera.

More likely it'll have an 18 megapixel sensor. Just like the 5D and the 1Ds Mark II, it can't have the same pixel count, and differ in price by $5,000.
So if it's a high-end camera - and the 5D is due to be replaced - it's likely to be this. Or a replacement for the Digital Rebel. Nikon has been gutting their market on the low end with better ISO performance and lower prices. Time for Canon to take the next step down into the lower echelons.
BTW, anyone who compares a D3 to the 5D is missing the point. Ken Rockwell has no credibility with serious photographers.

I've heard that several times, yet I've never understood why. Please explain.
I love Canon cameras, but their support sucks. They don't even support their 1-year old product with Vista. I bought the SD430 because it had Wifi, and they don't even support it with Vista. Wifi is totally useless with Vista, and even if you have IE7 on XP, it still doesn't work. I e-mailed Canon and they said they have no plans for any updates to the software. Even the latest software for XP has the Wifi disabled, they're just trying to pretend like it's not there, rather than fix it.
This is true. I have 64-bit Vista and they "have no plans" to support 64-bit, even though it's ideal for photographers because of the large memory space.
Its called a card reader.
I have to put my money on the update for the 5D because its overdue. Although I would love to buy a 450D. Any guesses on a price for the body and kit?
Will a card reader let you zoom, monitor, and take pictures on your camera when it is 300 feet away from your computer? Will a card reader transfer your pictures instantly after they're taken, and then letting you take more without even taking space on a memory card when you're outside?

I would suspect the EOS-450D (Digital Rebel XTi2 or XTii)
The rumor mill has it with the new Digic III CMOS Sensor and live view mode (with focus). The biggest thing I have read is that with the Live View ability it would be possible to intro the Movie Mode into the dSLR. All good things to bring more semi-armatures into the dSLR arena.
And with the new 18-55mm IS USM as a kit lens most likely. Gotta love IS competition.

Most likely the 450D. Prices on the 350D and 400D have been plummeting the last two months. Retailers are making room for the 450D...probably around the usual 800/900 slots.
I'm thinking they're going to include an IS lens this time around.
I sooooo hope so. Been waiting for this since before the 400D came out. Crazy, but true.
Why bother with the kit lense? Just buy the body & pickup a better lens with the saved cash.
I'm going to bet on a 450D. Unfortunately Canon will probably screw up the ergonomics of it just like the 350 and 400. They are just clunky, which is unfortunate because Canon make some seriously killer glass.
Seriously, this is news unexpected? The 5D has been out for two years, and Nikon just introduced their first FF camera. For me the big question will be just how much ass will the new camera kick? They certainly have had a long time to work on it without any pressure from the competition. I'm hoping for a 3" screen, 98% viewfinder, an improvement in viewfinder magnification, low noise (please be 16mp or less!), and improved AF and buffer size. Weather seals would just be gravy.
I bet on 5D II.
I don't think it'll be 450D. They don't need new models in 3-digit series. But they do lack a up-to-date full frame model for pro-sumers -- 5D is 2-3 years old and lack some new tech like sensor cleaning system. It's time to bring it up to speed.
5D II will be very sweet if it's priced the same with 5D.
im betting a upgrade to the 5d and a 450d
what ever it is i am going to start saving now i have needed a excuse to upgrade my XT and im thinking going with a 40d or 5d or the new camera
I'm really really hoping they release a Rebel/450D with improved ergonomics.
I don't think they're going to announce a new xti (450d). They usually announce the lower end (xti) then their highest end (1d mark III) then they fill in everything in between. I think the 450d will come when they're ready to upgrade everything else...mid next year. I'd love to see them up the FPS on the 5d...i love my 5d but i'd trade it up in a heartbeat if they'd just gimme at least 5fps.
I'm hopeful because nikon pushed 9 fps on their d3 model...don't let us down canon!

5D is 16MP, 3" LCD with Live View, 5 fps, and much better weather sealing. Trust me. You'll see at PMA. (Straight from the horse)...

Ok I have the right information, it will be the 6D, a replacement of the 5D, at 2 200$ body only, 16 mp, live view.

Why do people insist on having dust sensor cleaning? Anyone who has actually used it says it's just a marketing gimmick and doesn't really work (except maybe the version Olympus uses). The new 5D will probably be 16mp like the 1DSMKII. If they fix the build quality and ergonomics it might be a tempting camera over the D300 otherwise it's still an amateur camera with excellent image quality. I'd say it likely won't be less than $3000 which is still a good price for what it is.
I disagree about the sensor cleaning. I have a 1D Mark III, and I shoot 3500+ frames on most Sundays between April and November, usually in very dusty conditions. The sensor cleaning is a very welcome addition, and it DOES work. I say this from experience, not speculation. And if it works, it's not just a marketing gimmick.
