Pear Light lets you bask in the glow of radioactive fruit
Those looking to take advantage of some of the benefits of LED lighting while also adding a bit of eye-catching decor to their living room may do well to try to get their hands on designer Nick Foley's so-called "Pear Light," which appears to be as versatile as it is unnerving. Giving those pears their slightly radioactive glow is ten ultra bright LEDs, which light up whenever they're attached to the tree using some always handy rare earth magnets. What's more, the pears will also hold a charge for an hour or so after they're "picked," which should at least make for an interesting addition to any fruit bowl. No word if this is a one-off or not, but as Inhabitat points out, if it is available, you can bet it won't come cheap.

lol wtc is this supposed to do!? A lamp with pear shaped bulbs.......................what the heck is the point?! lol it's kinda cool tho. I'd get one as a decoration for like, that type of room that's like an extra, and you can't use as extra bedroom, but you decide to use as a tv room...you know what I mean??? lol jk it's pretty cool really.
O and GodPidgeon-
GO DUCKTALES!!!
"They're," not "their." Twice.
"whenever their attached to the tree"
THEY'RE
You've been nabbed by the grammar-police:
"the pears will also hold a charge for an hour or so after their 'picked,'"
Of course you mean:
"the pears will also hold a charge for an hour or so after they are 'picked,'"
First off. Three commenters corrected you, but not just three. The first three commenters caught you on it. Let that be a lesson.
Second, this is a wonderful looking device, it's a shame that these artsy pieces end up being just that, artsy pieces and not used to market. I would love to buy one of these, but I'm positive I won't have the money for one, assuming these will be going for sale.
I agree with StrangeBum. I'd love to have this/these. (not going there on the grammar, even though it is a pet peeve of mine) Too bad they're probably a few hundred bucks....or maybe a few thousand :(
Does this come in Bosc?
Its a shame that their are people like you who like, totally who cant get you're grammar or usage strait :)
PS- Argh, typing that was hard!
On the lights... I wouldn't mind those trees all over the house, and using the "pears" as your "key" to turn lights on in the room you are in. Nice way to make sure I turn lights off when I leave a room.
Alternately you could use that old-school device called a "light switch" to turn the lights on in a room. And also, it is a nice way to make sure you turn the lights off when you leave a room.
Not so much for me as my fiance who leaves lights on all over, the fridge door open, the fan on in winter, etc, etc... Give her something decorative and she might get the point. I know I can use occupancy sensors, and have done so in a few rooms. But this is so much more cool!
Man, these things look sweet. It would actually fit the decor of my house (yeah, yeah, no accent, but hey, I'm in a hurry). Got the Mediterranean thing goin' on over here.
I dig it. I think I would really like some of those in the house.
You don't have any balls in your house?
Why? Are you cruising for some balls?
i could so see me putting out an eye on one of those branches.
These remind me of that episode of Ducktales with the glowing pears. Almost identical :D
Are these from the same people that brought us Pear Cables?
So if I read this correctly, the "tree" will serve as a pear-to-pear network of lights.

The fruit's probably a little ripe by now.
You're all fired. Those are clearly eggplants. Large radioactive north Korean eggplants. They light up the fields with them for late night harvesting.
LED lighting is incredible, but that just may be the ugliest application I've ever seen. I don't even know any chicks that would want that wiry garage sale nightmare
