PS3 firmware version 2.10 apparently coming tomorrow
It looks like PlayStation 3 owners could be in for a welcome surprise when they boot up their console tomorrow, at least if an apparent slip-up on Sony's European website is any indication. As a user on the NeoGAF forums noticed, it recently put up a page which revealed that 2.10 firmware update "was released on December 18, 2007," bringing with it a number of additions, including DivX support (with some limitations) and, as rumored, support for Blu-ray Disc Profile 1.1. You'll also apparently soon be able to take advantage of the new "Voice Changer" feature, which will let you disguise your voice in voice or video chat, and you'll be getting support for (VC-1) WMV files in addition to the aforementioned DivX ones. If any of that interests you, we'd suggest keeping an eye out, 'cause it sure looks like this one's about to drop.[Via PS3 Fanboy]

just updated mine, voice change is awesome, but still cant play GT4 on my 80gig
I just updated mine and some xvid works and some doesn't. Gspot says that the xvid ones that worked were ISO MPEG-4 and the ones that failed to play were XVID DEV codec. It does support some xvid but only the ISO standard apparently.
Any way to convert them???
updating now.
im excited as hell- i have a ton of movies i was dreading to watch via laptop.
ps3 FTW
Is anyone else having problems playing GTA Vice City, I have a 60GB PS3 with the 2.0 firmware and it plays with really low frameratem, I have changed all the settings (smoothing on/off, high def on/off). Any suggestions, or anyone else experiencing this?
Quick question. Now that Divx support is out, is there a way of access other drives on your network for AVI/Media? I had a Rapsody N35 http://divxtech.com/rapsody_n35.html which I was using as a media player but it seem to have die this week. I have also install TVersity which seems to be OK for MP3 but you need a machine with alot of Horsepower to stream video. Or should a person look at linux (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PlayStation_3) as a multi media solution.
Thanks for your help
James
If WMP 11 is installed and you setup media sharing there should be a way to add those into your library and they should show up on XMB.
I have a lot of HD movies as well as a HDV home videos recorded in MPEG2 TS format stored on DVD-R DL 8.5GB will PS3 capable of playing those discs? if the answer is yes I will be heading tomorrow to the store to get one.
I went to store this morning took some HD videos with me recorded on DVD-R dual layer 8.5GB some are captured from my HDV camcorder as MPEG2 PS 1080i, some are WMVHD 720p, some other are full HD movies recorded from a modified DishNetwork satellite receiver here http://www.nextcomwireless.com/r5000/sales.htm as MPEG2 TS 1080i, I put each one of those inside the PS3 drive got "NO DATA" message, I was very disapointed of the lack of PS3 of playing diffrent HD formats, so I just went back home empty handed, thank god I have my media player Snazio 1350 that plays everything you put in.
