From my understanding, the great part about DisplayPort is that it's the same connector for desktops and laptops, where laptops SERIOUSLY needed to standardize their screen connections (should make laptop screens interchangeable). It's also royalty-free from what I read, which theoretically makes it cheaper to produce.

You've obviously never seen the now-obsolete 3007WFP or 3007WFP-HC models. The damn thing only has one DVI-input!
