Marko @ Dec 18th 2007 8:33AM
What about the iphone?!?
coolant8 @ Dec 18th 2007 8:44AM
WOW, think I might get a iphone for Christmas, not.
palehorse @ Dec 18th 2007 9:01AM
The world needs an iPhone killer... like yesterday.
HURRY UP HTC!
Bombaclaat @ Dec 18th 2007 9:26AM
If you compare the features, scalability and the abundance of third party software, windows mobile phones already kill the iphone. I have the HTC mogul and the iphone can't do half the things that i am doing with that phone or could do. I must admit the iphone is "pretty" and has some awesome features (multitouch, visual voicemail), but its not enough to justify the price. (camera with no video recording? lol)
palehorse @ Dec 18th 2007 10:20AM
Unfortunately, the iPhone is just too damn sexy.
Give me Mogul functionality, combined with iPhone sexiness, or I won't spend $400 for either one! It's as simple as that...
Scott @ Dec 18th 2007 5:27PM
One thing the iPhone lacks that the Windows Mobile phones have is spontaneous reboots and lock ups. That's a killer feature itself.
mike @ Dec 18th 2007 6:42PM
@Scott
uhh... no the iphone has those too
Blackster @ Dec 18th 2007 9:04AM
hm, i like it when people stop reading after the headline! And even then they don't get it that the article is about the IPOD TOUCH and not the IPHONE!
Morons! :D
Bombaclaat @ Dec 18th 2007 9:27AM
iphone is da shizz-nat! lol.
Reader @ Dec 18th 2007 9:31AM
Well it's more so that their reading comprehension is sub par, since even the title says it's about iPods, not iPhones.
Marko @ Dec 18th 2007 10:20AM
Thank you very much for your clever comment mr Blackster for pointing out that the article is about the ipod touch. You may, or may not be aware that iphone and the touch share a similar hardware/software platform, which is why my question is very valid! (and the iphone has a microphone in it, believe it or not).
But then again, what do I know! I am not as clever as you are!
rawhead @ Dec 18th 2007 9:39AM
All right. So it's "free" but since it's for the iPod touch, it will require an external mic. Any ol' external mic (not that there are many to choose from at the moment)? Or do you have to buy one from them? And, is that the reason why it's (only?) for the iPod touch and not also for the iPhone?
RadicalxEdward @ Dec 18th 2007 11:24AM
Well technically any external mic will do. Only problem is, currently our mic is the only mic compatible with the iPod Touch. You can buy them pre-built through us, buy a kit through us which includes all needed parts as well as instructions or make it yourself.
mics: 30euro
kits: 15euro
plus shipping
We have very detailed parts lists and instructions on the blog.

hey Bombaclaat, dont you find windows smart phones crash all the time. I had a HTC (T Mob Vario2) and although on paper it kicks the iphone arse the reality is it was crap to use, overly complicated for the avaerage joe, locked up daily, wouldn't connect to half the wireless hotspots and in the end I ebay'd it. It was rubbish. My Brother has an O2 Orbit (HTC) and he has similar issues with that.
If the iphone/ Ipod touch doesnt crash, connects to wireless hotspots easily and is really easy to use with out having to configure something every time then its a winner I am affraid.
Benson @ Dec 18th 2007 11:35AM
Well, I don't know about Windows smartphones, but check Nokia stuff out. Symbian phones are real good, and the internet tablets can't be beat, if you're willing to go with a two-gadget solution. I've had 2 crashes since I got mine, and the wireless stuff seems real good to me. (Don't have a winmob device to compare.)
But, as always, you can handily beat Apple stuff on hardware and features, often for less money. But it just won't be as slick. If you want slick, just-works experiences, buy iStuff. If you want to max-out on features or min-out on price, and are willing to trade slickness, go elsewhere.
I'm a geek; I enjoy fiddling with gadgets, trying out cool features, etc. I don't care that much about slickness. So I've never owned an Apple, and probably never will. But you're right, the average joe probably doesn't want what I do; he'd rather have the slickness (though price may be more of a concern for some), so the iPhone is a better choice for some.

Anyone tell me why the Y and the Z are in the wrong place on this QWERTZ keyboard?
l0k1 @ Dec 18th 2007 11:02AM
it's german
Benson @ Dec 18th 2007 11:04AM
Ummm.. the Z, at least, is correctly placed in this QWERTZ layout. I don't use one, so I don't know about the Y, but I'd bet it's right too.
The US isn't the only place they design keyboards.
Blackster @ Dec 18th 2007 11:23AM
you mean qwerty don'tcha?
and yeah it's german. eok is a fellow german ;)
RadicalxEdward @ Dec 18th 2007 11:25AM
eok is german,
marian is located close to budapest
and i'm in the u.s.
Benson @ Dec 18th 2007 11:43AM
Thought QWERTZ was German, but didn't want to put my foot in my mouth...
Blackster @ Dec 18th 2007 1:17PM
@benson:
yep, that's correct ;)
i meant ksat. the layout is correct for a qwertz keyboard and not for a qwerty ^^
KSAT @ Dec 18th 2007 2:05PM
Yea - I did mean QWERTY - just copied the German version instead. I didn't realize the German keyboard was different in this regard. Just swapping the Y and Z makes it german. See, you DO learn something new every day!
thanks!
Grant @ Dec 18th 2007 11:24AM
Guys, does anyone know if this external mic could be a bluetooth headset?
Thanks
RadicalxEdward @ Dec 18th 2007 11:39AM
i don't believe any bluetooth adapters work on the touch yet. Though don't be surprised if you see a post about that from marian. ;-)
Grant @ Dec 18th 2007 3:33PM
Thats Dude
James @ Dec 18th 2007 4:52PM
I understand the applications free but will the voip service be?
eok @ Dec 23rd 2007 3:07AM
this depends on your sip provider.
if he offers you a phone flatrate, then yes.
maybe take a look at freecall.com or voipbuster.com
paulxrk @ Dec 20th 2007 1:36AM
