"no good reason"
Except that this is the busiest week for shipping of the entire year....
Unfortunately, I find this update disappointing. The main use I have for divx/xvid is some anime fansubs, and very few of those seem to play on the PS3 - maybe 10%. Another 10% starts to play, then freezes after 10 seconds. A friend had a better success rate, about 50%. On the other hand, my Xbox 360 plays about 80% of them (I was honestly stunned by how easy it was to stream it from my Vista machine without any extra software and how many files worked; PS3 streaming works too by the way). None of the files I have are older than a year.
I'm glad most people here seem to be able to play most of their files after this update. But for me, 360 of all things seem to be the better solution, plus it's not much noisier than my PS3 (which ramps up its fan to full speed no matter what ).
Hello I have updated my ps3 to firmware 2.10, now I want to stream my divx /xvid movies from my desktop to the ps3. I use SimpleCenter, works fine for mp3 en photo's but when ik select a divx movie the ps3 show's me that is incompatibele data. Do I need other mediaserver software?
Thanxs for the support.
Greetz.

PS3 2.10 firmware tested. It doesnt work with Xvid. While I was able to play several divx files, i wasnt able to playback any xvid ones. I tested it with Tin Man, Dexter, and Red Dwarf and it would not play them. Xbox360 plays them fine. I really prefer to watch vids on my PS3 though since its a lot more user friendly. sigh When is this gonna get fixed?
Woot! More porn from my collection unlocked for PS3 streaming! lets keep things in perspective guys!.
Well your video's obviously aren't encoded in divx or xvid or are very old versions. Just about all my videos work, even ones i thought wouldn't, and most are encoded in xvid. Although i have dah a few troubles playing back ripped movies by Handbrake, can't remember my setting is used though.
Thank you Sony for giving us this functionality, should have been in there from the start though.
anyone have problems connecting the the internet through wireless with the PS3 and FIOS
Damn PSP update bricked my PSP. Fully charged battery, didn't unhook ps, just hit x for reset after install. Anyone else? What can I do.
The voice changer makes me sound like Christopher Walker........
