Watch the 24 most obscure NCAA bowl games on Verizon's V Cast
Are you ready for some football? How about full-length, live coverage of 24 NCAA bowl games. Sounds good, right? Just forget about big screen HDTV though, this is MediaFLO on your itty bitty cellphone display. Fanatics (in every sense of the word) will have access to games provided by ESPN Mobile TV, CBS Mobile and FOX Mobile through Verizon's V CAST Mobile TV. Unfortunately, none of the BCS Championship games will be available on the service. You will however have access to Roady's Humanitarian Bowl, Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl, the Meinke Car Care Bowl, and Papa John's.com bowl to name just a few. "Must see" games Verizon -- really?

lol gaylord hotel. I havnt heard the word gaylord since primary school.
Dubb @ Dec 18th 2007 8:49AM
You've never seen Meet The Fockers?
Dorf @ Dec 18th 2007 9:22AM
Very poorly written article. Very obvious the writer probably can not tell the difference between a football and a basketball.
Most obscure bowls? The Gator Bowl? The Cotton Bowl? The Outback Bowl?
Teams like Wisconsin, Alabama, Tennessee, Missouri, Arkansas, Texas, Cal, FSU, Air Force, Oregon. Yeah.. who's ever heard of THOSE teams? They must be Division III, eh?
Clueless.
Tommy @ Dec 18th 2007 8:54AM
If you want to make fun of some of the lesser bowls out there, be my guest. But you can't mock Verizon for adding 24 college football games to their line up. The games at the bottom are the top of the line non-BCS bowls. The Chic-Fila bowl gets the 1st pick after BCS in the ACC. Cotton bowl gets the first pick after BCS in the SEC.
I'd say this is a good move for Verizon and College Football fans, even though I've been Anti-Verizon since their introduction of bluetooth. This post is way more about the crappy sponser names of these bowls than the quality of the bowl games. Even the especially mocked "Gaylord Music City Bowl" is a great match up of Kentucky (who was in the hunt for the SEC East for most of the Season and Beat the SEC Representative in the Great National Title Bowl...) and Florida State who has had better years, but is still a great school out of the ACC. These two teams play in any other game with out the Gaylord name and nobody would dream of mocking it.
Jonathan Bergeron @ Dec 18th 2007 9:04AM
I will mock Florida State whenever I get the chance. They play like the 'all girl' school they are.
Tommy @ Dec 18th 2007 9:08AM
Let me guess.. You're a Florida fan? I'm a Clemson alum and I don't really like FSU either. Thats not really the point. Don't you appreciate that you can watch the team you hate the most get slaughtered by Kentucky from almost anywhere (in 180 cities around the country with V-cast access).
Jonathan Bergeron @ Dec 18th 2007 9:31AM
Well yes that does give me a bit of joy, knowing I can watch the SEC dominate all their bowl games. That doesn't mean I have to stop mocking that has-been school.
Tim Brown @ Dec 18th 2007 9:49AM
Is it me or are there more abbreviations in sports than there are in computing, if only just?
Ryan @ Dec 18th 2007 3:39PM
Tommy, you are a Clemson fan?? Best of luck to you on the 31st then, but as always... War Damn Eagle :-)
Flashpoint @ Dec 18th 2007 8:55AM
No longer will you have to be torn between attending church and the Superbowl.
No longer will you have to rush home through traffic to see the game winning kick.
No longer will you have to dread working late hours on Suerbowl Sunday relying on a crappy am/fm radio for game stats.
Now you can have HDTV in your pocket.
Kris @ Dec 18th 2007 8:56AM
Those arn't the worst games. Those bowls include teams like, FSU, Wake Forest, Miami, Southern Miss and Cincinnati. Those teams draw fans. well not southern miss so much
Tommy @ Dec 18th 2007 9:02AM
Tennessee, Wisconsin, Clemson, Auburn... The list goes on. Probably all of the top 25, except for the 10 teams in the BCS. Glad to see I'm not the only one who thought this post was a little off the mark.
Jonathan Bergeron @ Dec 18th 2007 9:06AM
I'm pretty sure the people who write for Engadget don't watch any sports. If they did they would have applauded VW for broadcasting these games.
TJ @ Dec 18th 2007 11:21AM
What bowl game is miami playing in this year? oh wait they aren't playing in any with their 5 wins.
Brodie @ Dec 18th 2007 9:22AM
I'm pretty sure they just like to bash VZW regardless. If this were Apple making all the bowl games available on the iPhone it would have been the most brilliant thing this side Stephen Hawkings.
fendee1 @ Dec 18th 2007 9:24AM
Hey - That's my phone. I'm glad I have another use for it.
Krish the Fish @ Dec 18th 2007 10:50AM
Lol I was about to say the same thing. Yay for VX9400!
you'd think they'd promo it on the voyager, but whatever (my brother has the voyager, and it makes me bitter) :)
too bad i won't be in the states, and the fact that VCast TV was "provided" in my service area on December 3rd, but I still don't get reception. Ahh, well, we haven't have our cake and eat it too it seems.
govkid201 @ Dec 18th 2007 10:10AM
Why watch it on your phone? Go to the Game, its much more exciting! I'll be in Miami January 3rd to watch my hokies play!
There is definitely no such thing as an "obscure" bowl.
IndiaTech @ Dec 18th 2007 12:32PM
Dude... Hokies are playing the ORANGE BOWL... This article talks about the 2nd Tier Bowl games NOT the BCS ones.
govkid201 @ Dec 19th 2007 10:05AM
Yes, i know, but either way, what i am saying is support the teams by being there in person. i would be there if we were in a non-bcs bowl.
Anthony @ Dec 18th 2007 10:22AM
The comments for this post where just what I'd hoped when I clicked in.
Loved it. I know nothing about football other than that my former alums seem to do pretty well, but certainly wasn't disappointed to see such emotion in these posts after some of their school team's success was determined "minor".
KSAT @ Dec 18th 2007 10:29AM
ha hah...you said GAYLORD.
Sorry - I have never heard of the Gaylord Hotels. Needless to say, I never knew they sponsored a BOWL game.
VZWguy @ Dec 18th 2007 11:08AM
I don't think it is going out on a limb to say that mr. ricker doesn;t know jack about college football.
the bowl games they added are big bowl games, especially regionally were they have Vcast TV. marketing..OMG who would do such a thing, marketing and all that jazz to grow customer base
secondly do you have any idea the cost it would be to broadcast a BCS bowl on Vcast TV?
put aside the crap how corrupt and wrong the BCS is for a moment and think of the cost, it is superbowl-esque
last thing to keep in mind is....OMFG people work. I know, how crazy is that, CRAZY AS HELL. not everyone has the ability to sit in front of their HD tv every night and watch every bowl game, sometimes people(and this goes back to marketing) use the TV service to watch what they wish while on the fly, at work, or stuck in a mall with the family.
afterall who was this service marketed too?
and who would be using it?
not somebody who writes for a blog for a living, can be home almost every night and can watch almost every game without interruption.
Taylor Ross @ Dec 18th 2007 11:36AM
Uhhh Kentucky is in the Music City Bowl. So it's pretty legit.
Tommy @ Dec 18th 2007 1:21PM
The Music City bowl is the "Gaylord Hotels Music City bowl"....
Gaylord Hotels owns and opperates the famed Opryland Hotel in Nasheville. They're probably one of the biggest companies in terms of capital in Nasheville, the site of the Music City Bowl. It seems the company with the most money gets to name the bowl.
Hollywood Ron @ Dec 18th 2007 11:36AM
Add me to the list of people calling Thomas Ricker a moron.
Michael K Pate @ Dec 18th 2007 2:52PM
Even boring bowl games have something to offer: http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=318944
Ryan @ Dec 18th 2007 3:50PM
Time to get our of your parents basement, Thomas. These bowl games (combined) will most likely appeal to 95% or more of all the college football fans in the country. I almost wish I had Verizon just for the next 3 weeks because of this.
(Note: Engadget - seriously, look at everyones displeasure with this thread. Don't you guys hire quality writers rather than people who will just blatantly ignore the facts of a story to make it look good?? If you guys keep writers like this around, you will soon have about the same credibility of Fox News. Just keep that in mind)
