DisplayLink's new VGC 4.3 supports Vista Aero 3D
Since simply having a USB-fed monitor would not be bleeding edge enough for you, DisplayLink has updated its Virtual Graphics Card software to support the Windows Vista Aero 3D interface. The update, version 4.3, is available to all DisplayLink-based systems, including USB graphics adapters, docking stations and monitors. DisplayLink claims it's the first implementation of Aero in a network display technology, and since you can plug in up to six displays with VGC, certain maths would say that adds up to a whole bunch of Aero.

only if Vista was as aerodynamic...
Zenshai @ Dec 19th 2007 9:42AM
It is, try throwing it out of your window.

While I feel that a lot of the complaints about vista are unwarranted, I must say Zenshai got a pretty good chuckle out of me.

I agree with Paul. I don't find anything wrong with Vista. It's basically an upgrade to XP with pretty graphics.

I think this post is more about DisplayLink then it is Vista. Before this driver people like you probably blamed Vista for not supporting Aero on DisplayLink adapters. You're just a bunch of babies.

I don't know if RDP is considered a "Network Display Technology" but I just tried it with my Media Center PC from my desktop and Win+Tab works just as shown in the picture above. I'd have to say this announcement is bunk.

I can't understand why anyone would choose to use that flip 3D interface for shifting through windows. Microsoft ought to have included something akin to Exposé.
insertAlias @ Dec 19th 2007 12:37PM
Expose is pretty good, but Flip 3D isn't that bad either. Personally, I have Alt-Tab burned so deep in my muscle memory that I hardly use either. But to each his own.

I didn't use the 3D windows switcher much at first, more just to show it off. Once I got a Logitech MX Revolution with the switcher wheel on the side I have found the 3d switcher much more usefull.

Very nice, I wounder if beryl-compiz is supported or if linux is even supported at all. This would be great for 3d graphic design.
tamoghno @ Dec 19th 2007 1:24PM
flip 3D ? does have any uses other than show off ? who cares ?
wixostrix @ Dec 20th 2007 3:03AM
i find the flip 3d a little annoying to use actually. you cant do it fast like alt+tab, especially when you have like a calculator or small window open you really have to think about where to stop. it looks pretty tho :D
mark @ Dec 20th 2007 1:01AM
@wixostrix
you know that you can click on the windows while in flip 3d, you don't have to just shuffle through and stop on the one you want. i find that helpful for small windows, although i still rarely use it.

yea but i tend to not have my hand on the mouse when im switching through windows
